@codewizard@hear-me.social We add data to OpenStreetMap (and related open data projects like Mangrove Reviews, Panoramax, and Wikimedia Commons). Many of us don't want to use privacy-invading proprietary maps like Google Maps, so we use OSM-based freedom-respecting software instead. Others use OSM for commercial, humanitarian, government, or research projects.

@sounddrill@infosec.exchange Thank you for your interest! Start by regularly attending the mapping parties, and actively mapping outside them. That way, you can become an experienced mapper who can mentor newbies. You can also talk to the organizers and help them find venues in your part of town. Inviting college students and members of other communities (e.g. WhyLoiter) is also helpful.

I see it now 🙂 Contacting geography/GIS departments of colleges and informing them about these events would be helpful in bringing up attendance in general. Also, the Mumbai community had some success in inviting the local "Why Loiter?" community.
