@RueNahcMohr that's ignoring the rounded "B" that also could be an "8", so people keep not finding the part on account of getting it wrong

The second "industry expert" site I run into which has "knowledge" articles that are completely fabricated, now including materials, machinery and even pretend-SEM images. https://salesplastics.com/pbt-gf30/

@aislerhq Strange presentation. If the project does not permit showing snippets or making example designs then probably paying for consulting is a non-issue. As for approaching the subject, I find it helpful to conceive a shielding challenge as, inversely, "how to make a bad antenna". This is also accessible via simulation, either by looking at the far field, or extracting emissions through multiple ports in the simulation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWPC2ud1rXo

How to avoid making an antenna

@kde The state should recognize the highly flexible and scalable mode of working on an open source project and create and exemption, removing the 15 hours/week barrier and requirement to announce such work beforehand. Sent with my Siemens Faxgerät.

@astro_jcm The physical build really makes the CGI version look bland in comparison. I remember when documentary-style pieces about such places or lore were structured around a narrator having a model on a desk they could take apart and point at, so your work hits a soft spot. The CGI version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0sRNqfiwfw

LT8362 (60V) and LT8361 (100V switch) boost/inverting/SEPIC converters are a pretty good match for a helper supply that needs to start up at 3V from a rail that's at 48V nominal. I have a soft spot for SEPIC converters and I cannot lie.

@alpenglow@mstdn.social I'll post a pic and details if I can find it again (it's been a fair number of PCBs recently). The lesson is perhaps that one always needs to look at the Gerber output before ordering. But then again, sometimes the manufacturer previews even don't render correctly.

@PalmAndNeedle @zardoz03 @kicad I too would rather be excited about what a force multiplier another full-time dev can be for KiCad. So many issues just closed just to make them go away, so many things people are eagerly awaiting. Yet here we are, wondering why a piece of random corporate art sticks out in a way that borrows from features that have become synonymous with "we couldn't be bothered".

@Daojoan@mastodon.social ChatGPT is nothing more than the game of "someone said something wrong on the internet", but as-a-service. Sometimes it finds some legit information, sometimes it takes stuff out of context or screws information from a pdf because columns are difficult. Then it repeatedly claims it's right. Sane humans won't win against this firehose.

I really enjoy making eval circuits / breakouts for stuff. (Maybe I should offer that as a service for a small fee. $Person gets the board with optional customization, I get the hands-on experience.. under the condition that I can publish the result as an open source deliverable.) My MP8862 board for reference: https://github.com/MisterHW/EVAL-MP8862

@MisterMaker it's actually pretty useful as is when it comes to prototyping #SheetMetal parts as well, since it inherently supports half-etching, which creates a preferential straight or curved creasing line.

@MisterMaker Found an example that can be realized with half-etching - the metal shopping bag (ridigly foldable) as seen in this lecture (Folding the Future: How Origami is Transforming Engineering | Dr Mark Schenk) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKUqy5gWwOU

Anyone tried to DIY some TGVs yet?

"Heating [Schott’s FOTURAN II photosensitive glass] to 500–600 °C causes doped Ag+ within the glass to absorb electrons and convert into silver atoms, becoming a nucleation center to develop lithium metasilicate crystals (L⁢i2⁢S⁢i⁢O3). The hydrofluoric acid etching rate of L⁢i2⁢S⁢i⁢O3 reaches 20–50 times higher than that of the unaffected zone, enabling the selective etching of the glass and unveiling microstructures like vias [41]."

Of course AliExpress is eager to exploit the current push for "age verification"

... to see a pair of side cutters. And probably because there are skin tones in the product picture.

No, just no.

@RueNahcMohr@infosec.exchange I noticed, but institutions and manufacturers poisoning the pool of knowledge is really crossing a line. Here's a 2024 publication on PBT-GF that's hopefully authentic. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/382416629_The_Effect_of_Glass_Fiber_on_the_Notched_Izod_Impact_Strength_of_Polybutylene_TerephthalateGlass_Fiber_Blends%27
