I'm re-reading Neptune's Brood by @cstross@wandering.shop and this quote hits a bit harder nowadays than when it was written in 2013, in the era before the slop engines:

A najgorsze jest to, że to są bardzo przydatne narzędzia dla osób z niepełnosprawnością.
No ale też jako medyczne urządzenia wspomagajace powinny wyglądać inaczej i mieć działającą diodkę nagrywania.

Fun fact: the US spent hundreds of millions building advanced centrifuges to expand their uranium enrichment capacity. Then, during the Obama presidency, they decided they don't need this much enrichment capacity because Russian enrichment is much cheaper, so they defunded the Piketon facility and destroyed a lot of brand-new centrifuges.

Fucking Carl Schmitt and his evil but really insight that establishing a border and saying "those inside are the in-group and protected and those outside are the out-group and not protected" allows you to later move the border, because it has been already established that the out-group is not protected.

Without a constitutional majority Tisha would be fucked by many safeguards left by Fidesz, but if they do get 133 seats, they can really break Orban's hold on most of Hungarian politics (the media ecosystem will still be controlled by the oligarchs who are allied to Orban, though).

Chainsaws or bicycles or power drills are not designed by entire corporations for the explicit purpose of harming their users for the greater good of shareholder value.
And you can't just give your kid a car because it would be convenient if the kid drove to the primary school on their own, so we do regulate tools.
The problem is that we have decided Big Techs are effectively Too Big To Regulate, so we're trying to regulate Internet access points instead, which is bullshit.
But I'm also not a big fan of "education/training is all that's needed" narrative, it's a narrative that's being pushed by big corporations that want to do away with labour law and OSHA, because we're supposedly on a level playing field here, and we're definitively not.
Wrzuciłem na YouTube nagranie mojej prelekcji z września z konwentu Copernicon 2025: jak wygląda energetyka współcześnie, jakie są problemy i zalety różnych rozwiązań i czego możemy się spodziewać w przyszłości.
Czyli 95 minut opowiadania o tym, czemu jesteśmy w dupie i pewnie będziemy w dupie, a także jakie optymistyczne wizje mają sens, a jakie nie :-)
So, there's a very nice new romantic comedy on Netflix, Faraway. Nice because it's European and directed by a woman, so people are speaking German, Turkish, English and Croatian, they look like normal human beings, not uncanny valley cyborgs like Nicole Kidman, and the film is very anti-consumerist in its message, there's no pro-capitalist product placement anywhere to be seen (well, maybe except for Croatia, but I can get behind that product placement). And, as a general, the movie is very wholesome, well-spent 110 minutes.
(Also it's funny that Polish Netflix says it's 16+ because of language, but IMDB says it's TV-MA, probably because of some nudity. It's definitively not "mature audiences only", watching it with a teen would be completely fine with me)

Nie, polskim dużym mediom hegemonia bigtechów zupełnie nie jest na rękę, bo większość z nich ma model oparty o reklamy, a bigtechy zjadają reklamy - zamiast czytać media ludzie zadają pytanie czatowi GPT czy googlowi i czytają odpowiedź "sztucznej inteligencji", zero wyświetleń reklam.
(Wcześniej był cały "pivot to video" i ogólne uzależnienie wyświetleń od kaprysów algorytmów FB/Twittera/whatever i to też były problemy)

I assume anyone with a serious threat model has turned off automatic link previews a long time ago, since it is a possible gateway for much more serious zero-click attacks using a zero-day exploit.
