“The statement comes amid growing resentment toward Democratic leaders for their refusal to take action as Trump has waged his war. Only 28 percent of Americans say they have a favorable view of the Democratic Party … while Schumer — the most powerful Democrat in Congress — has seen his approval ratings tumble, hitting 38 percent in March.”

What a f*cking mess:
“The White House’s plans to completely annihilate Iran are so haphazard that even the vice president can’t keep up with them.
JD Vance was apparently caught off guard Tuesday when a journalist informed him that Donald Trump had threatened to obliterate the entire Iranian civilization by 8 p.m. Vance was onstage in Budapest at the time, feet away from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.”

“More than 9 in 10 want to raise taxes on corporations and on the wealthiest Americans, while more than three-quarters want to break up tech monopolies and believe the government should conduct stronger oversight of business. ... Three-quarters said they wanted Democrats to ‘be more aggressive in calling out Republicans,’ while nearly 7 in 10 said it was appropriate to describe their party as ‘weak.’”

“‘Mothers’ Day’ … actually started in the 1870s, when the sheer enormity of the death caused by the Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War convinced writer and reformer Julia Ward Howe that women must take control of politics from the men who had permitted such carnage. Mothers’ Day was not designed to encourage people to be nice to their mothers. It was part of women’s effort to gain power to change society.”
“Between loan or lease payments, insurance, fuel, maintenance, and repairs, car drivers in the United States pay an average of $1,015 per month to own and maintain a vehicle. Cash-strapped families would have to take this monthly amount away from their housing and grocery budgets. …

“British Columbia, which has done the most to recruit Americans, approved the licensing applications of 1,028 U.S.-trained nurses from when the province's streamlined application process took effect in April 2025 through January, according to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. In all of 2023 only 112 applicants from the U.S. were approved, the agency said. In 2024, it was 127.”

But still no English Women’s Super League (WSL) or other major women’s soccer leagues (other than NWSL). And still no iPad version. Really Apple?! Ugh. 🙄

Another sign of our rapidly changing global environmental dynamics: “With warming seas and continued nutrient input from land, other regions of the world could face similar brown tides in the future. The Great Sargassum Belt may not be an isolated anomaly – it could be the first visible sign of a much broader planetary shift.” 😳

I’ve known this trick for a while, but it’s too good not to share since it’s so useful!
“On any list view, you can swipe with two fingers to instantly begin selecting items. It instantly changes to a selection mode, so you can tap additional items to select or unselect. The toolbar of the app might change as well, letting you move, delete, copy or do something with the selection.”
Quashing citizen involvement & democratic governance is *exactly* what this is: “‘This is not just talking about a whale and the need for fossil fuels. It is just one more act in a political quashing of citizen involvement in statutory enforcement and protection of public values. Scratch away at almost any environmental controversy, and pretty soon you’re looking at big questions of democratic governance.’”
“International law recognizes attacks on civilian infrastructure—like those Russian president Vladimir Putin has been carrying out on Ukraine for years—as war crimes. The Geneva Convention specifically prohibits attacks on drinking water, so Trump’s threat to attack the desalination plants that make seawater drinkable is … not only stupid because Iran could do the same to other Gulf states, but ‘also, quite obviously,...very illegal.’”
Can’t wait! 🤩
“Based on the blockbuster book by New York Times bestselling author Blake Crouch & starring an ensemble cast led by Golden Globe nominee Joel Edgerton alongside Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley and Amanda Brugel, the 10-episode season will premiere on Apple TV with the first episode on August 28, followed by one new episode every Friday through October 30, 2026.”
Forcing themselves on us, wanted or not: “Republicans recognize the only way for them to win going forward is to skew the maps so that Democrats can’t win, because right now, at least, the administration is a dumpster fire.” 🤬

This regime, hiding the truth? I’d like to say I’m shocked, but we all know better by now. 🙄
“While the damage from the Iranian strikes, which have killed and wounded servicemembers, is itself important, so is the underlying story: the U.S. government is hiding the true cost of the war in Iran from the American people.”
