The Retro Computer app has a widget that shows up on my car’s CarPlay-connected screen. I mean, yeah, I like it. It’s super nerdy.
An update to the opcodes app is now available.
- Z80N opcodes and info
- Missing transputer instructions
Remember to tip your developer!

I tried to build a mechanical scanning TV using an old LP and a neon bulb (LEDs were too expensive) when I was wee.
Here’s how i might try it if i was going to give it a go today.
Scanwheel, a miniature mechanical TV
Remember kids: if you can’t afford a KIM-1 you can always use a KIM-1 emulator.

Holy shit. Someone actually coded this. It’s real. And it times out after 2 minutes. And best of all a single click on the last digit triggers the check so unless it’s a 1 it fails. It’s bloody amazing!
World’s worst UX ever!
We did it! We finally did it!
A reminder - if you bought Pocket Universe (even ten years ago) - your purchase should have unlocked all the features in the new version permanently. If not, please let me know.
But $3 for ten years of updates is pretty good value I would have thought.
You’re going to like this: My biggest retro-computing project yet! It’s an app that gathers information, specs, community, new peripherals.. everything I can think of.
Here’s the public TestFlight beta. PLEASE let me know where I have made mistakes or omissions!

I need one of these to scan retro computers.

If 600 people use the 99c tip in the retro computer app, I’ll order it. Only 598 tips to go!
Hey have you ever wondered what would happen if you made a mad old racist lunatic into the king of the world? Well wonder no more.
The DEC Opcodes app just got a nice update. Learn how to write low-level code on mini and mainframe computers; now with PDP-1 and PDP-8 programming tutorials. Especially useful if you have a PiDP-1 or PiDP-8!
It’s new and improved! Added a new PDP-11 tutorial, more “historical documents”, and a list of real world places to see a real PDP (or log into one).
Good morning from a country led by genocidal war criminals. But also one without universal healthcare, if that helps narrow it down.
Loved this article!
I don’t really care about Liquid Glass. What I care about is when I take a photo it vanished for ages before eventually appearing in the Photos app.
Virtual KIM also got an update. Improved 6502 lessons and a new ROM that might look familiar.

Update for “Opcodes” app is out! I fixed some missing 68000 instructions, improved the view on the iPad, and now you can paste in a string of hex digits to disassemble them in the scratchpad.
Sir Charles Antony Richard Hoare (/hɔːr/ HOR; 11 January 1934 – 5 March 2026), known as Tony Hoare or C. A. R. Hoare, was a British computer scientist who made foundational contributions to programming languages, algorithms, operating systems, formal verification, and concurrent computing.
The users who hate the user interface of Pocket Universe 2 *really* hate it (in a non-specific way) so I’ve spent a lot of time just simplifying and de-fancy-fying in the hope that will help. Feel free to try the TestFlight and leave feedback (especially if you are German, French, Italian or Spanish!)
