Three good things from yesterday. 1. Cousins dropped off a Spring Salmon for me. 2. Neighbour invited me out on his boat for lunch at the Thetis Island marina and a bit of fishing and we caught another Spring Salmon. 3. Spring Salmon for dinner.
Here was the view yesterday from Tent Island looking north to Ladysmith.

I had one of those memorable #VancouverIsland days recently. A gathering of friends on the beach, salmon cooked around the fire, oysters (tluqw tluqw) picked off the beach and steamed around the fire, clams (s’aqw) steamed under the sand. Veggies were steamed nettles and maple flowers picked from nearby trees. Being fed by the land with food gathered by friends and cooked in traditional ways on the beach. #pnw #indigenous

One of today’s projects was to make some plum jam before the plums I picked went bad. Success! I think I knew this before but I relearned today that jam is basically sugar and pectin with fruit flavouring. #gardening #canning #fruit

@Virginicus@universeodon.com We have some hazel nut trees growing around us but we also have a lot of squirrels who drop off gifts on their travels. I’ll have a close smell tomorrow and see:).

@Virginicus@universeodon.com A rabbit took the top off of it and just left the stem so I didn’t hold out a lot of hope for survival but it has rallied well! Now that it’s big enough my plant app agrees with you and says walnut. Here’s hoping for a long and fruitful life.

Over the near 40 years we’ve been together, we have rarely bought new living room furniture. Mostly made due with cast offs from relatives and friends. Yesterday we had a designer measure our living room, gave them a budget and today we get to see what she comes up with. I have no idea what to expect.

Followed up the plum jam with 8 jars of blackberry jam today. I had all of the stuff out for jelly but took the easy way out. I feel very blessed to live on a dead end road with family, fruit trees, chickens and a ferocious amount of blackberries.

@scififan@kind.social I haven’t tried that brand. I’ll see if I can get some though. With the last batch I just did there was 5 cups of sugar and, boy, nobody needs that much in their jam.

@mlanger@mastodon.world You go and get those seeds, Maria! The hollyhocks will be forever remembered by your efforts to spread their offspring. Free the hollyhocks!

@EllenInEdmonton@yeg.bike Thanks for the suggestion Ellen. I’m going to look into freezer jam now because I’ve got tons of blackberries and apples that I’ve got to do something with.
