I seem to have the first Johnny Jump Up bloom of the season. Before most things have even woken up.

A lovely interview with Jeremy Dutcher that gets into keeping languages alive - by Tom Power on CBC Q.
... Among the participants and collaborators in that report, the Government of Ontario was glaringly absent. The report says the province hasn’t shared valuable data on caribou, polar bears and other regional species that are needed to complete the assessment....
This grape hyacinth (muscari) popped up in recent years in what is left of my 'wildflower meadow'. I certainly didn't plant it there! I probably planted it the other side of the house decades ago.
Just had an encounter with the bird I saw in the cold, snowy pre dawn eating and moving prey under a conifer. I had assumed it was a crow - but I ended up flushing out a hawk as I went to investigate a few hours later.

First sighting of an Eastern Towhee this season
🙂
As a former long time horse owner, I appreciate finally seeing an explanation.
A very good segment on CBC's What On Earth - roundup of the short term impact longer term possibilities of the middle east crisis
Notable uncertainties listed for this analysis and big gaps between variations of current measures versus net zero
