Academic degree holder, firefighter, EMT, former cook. Swears a lot. Eternal student, sometimes teacher.

Mostly rambling incoherently about emergency medicine, firefighting, hockey, and politics, usually in English or German.

@frank87@mastodon.pirateparty.be @ExtinctionR@social.rebellion.global "Current societal systems" is not the same as "civilisation". Change, even radical change, isn't the same as the end.

@Permanent_Dinner @Bellingcat If memory serves, the US never signed that treaty. Not that it would stop them if it were to be otherwise, of course.

@a_watch Naturally. One of these groups she's hoping to get a job with once her stint as a politician is over. The other one doesn't pay. Rotten excuses for human beings, the lot of them.

@gert@social.coop @drsimevans@mastodon.energy If your argument is we need less individual vehicles then you'll hear no objections from me. Good public transport and infrastructure not requiring a car is an important piece of this whole thing. But things don't rise in demand just because they're cheaper. I could go out with a sign offering Free Poop and that wouldn't let demand skyrocket. Changes in infrastructure are what's going to be important. Less cars overall, but if there have to be cars, I'd rather they were EVs.

@gert@social.coop @drsimevans@mastodon.energy Not really. Combustion engines lose a lot of the energy they produce - about two thirds of the energy created by burning fuel is lost as heat. We use some of that to heat our cars in winter, so a small percentage of it is arguably still used, but by and large it is simply vented via the cooling system. EVs, on the other hand, put almost all energy you store in the batteries towards the drive systems with very small losses. So overall they need less to achieve same.

Here's the thing. I like coffee. I drink a lot of it. I can tell good coffee from bad coffee.

But this not-so-current obsession some people have with this stuff and especially posh espresso machines is just completely over the top and unnecessary.

The best thing I can say about this hotel so far is that there are incredibly vocal geese outside and it is an absolute delight to listen to their incessant honking
