To a cat, boxes are Personal Kingdoms.
A box is a secure, enclosed environment that triggers a cat's natural instinct to find a safe den. Curling up in a box lets a cat keep watch while feeling hidden & safe. Boxes help to keep things toasty for our feline friends. The cardboard acts like a cozy blanket, trapping the cat's body heat and acting as an insulator. The tighter the fit, the better.
This box is a challenge - but it's still a keeper.
From my garden....
A Day Lily (Hemerocallis) - native to Asia, showing off its colors. The blooms are large and numerous on a mature plant.
The plants are perennial, bulbous plants, whose common name alludes to its flowers, which typically last about a day.

This day lily is called Pink Ballerina.
Spring brings so much beauty to the garden.
An elderly gentleman using a walker always walks by my property on his daily walk. He has Alzheimer's, so he takes pictures with his phone & saves them into its memory. He shows me the ones that are his favorites. Many are flowers.
Here is a pic he wanted me to see. Yes, it is from my garden, but he was unaware of that. I'm glad he gets as much enjoyment from its beauty as I do.

The lilies are just poking their noses through the soil. Buds are swelling on the trees and the wisteria needs a major prune. Lots to do!
This is an lemon Asiatic Lily nestled among some wildflowers. in my garden. Asiatic Lilies offer a wide array of colors, from the softest pastels to fiery reds and oranges that practically ignite when the sun shines on them.
My indoor garden,
The windows are covered with plastic sheets to keep the cold out. The orchids have bloomed in our closed-in porch for many years and everyone who visits us always want to see what is in bloom.

I got this!
I cut back all the Martha Washington geraniums I brought inside for the winter. They will be watered very lightly and with a top up of some fresh potting soil they will re bloom early Spring next year. The compost bins are now full.

Large day lily in bloom with several to follow. One of the few flowers that enjoy high heat days.

Capsicum Harvest
This is the first time I have ever grown sweet peppers from seeds I extracted from a grocery store purchase. It was a large red bell pepper - I potted up 20 seeds and kept 9 of the seedlings. This is the 2nd harvest this season - the first ones had time to turn red - this lot is still green - frost is forecast for tonight so I had to pick them green.
I've been cutting them up & putting them in freezer bags in the fridge. They will keep us in peppers for the winter months ahead ... yum!
I like cats and my brother likes dogs, so I send him cool cat pics & he sends me cool dog pics! He sent this one today from Western Australia. A dog on a day out with his special hooman - now that is cool.

My Garden
Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae).
The leaves of Aster feed caterpillars of around 112 butterfly and moth species. Asters are especially important to ensure that pollinators such as Bumblebee Queens have the energy they need before going into hibernation.
It is also an essential plant for migrating Monarch butterflies.
This is one of our latest blooming plants, often blooming until its hit by a few hard frosts.
My garden today...
More daylilies in bloom. These are the gold beauties. So glad that last night's heavy rain did not make them look like dishrags on sticks. They held up magnificently.
Just realized it is Friday 13th today.
Seeing a black cat today will bring you a lot of joy.

Queen’s Tears (Billbergia nutans) is in bloom right now. When touched, the flowers release nectar, earning it the common name “Queen’s Tears.”
Notice the unique plant stand - our old ironing board repurposed.

My Garden.
My Amaryllis just came into bloom. I now have 2 dozen bulbs. I'll be giving away 15 of them to friends this year.
Native to Africa, the genus Amaryllis comes from the Greek word amarysso, which means "to sparkle."
They prefer a little bit of morning sun with bright, indirect light the rest of the day. Keep the soil moist but not wet.
My garden,
All this green is helping to keep the temperature down around the house during this oppressive heat wave. The flowers making their way though the greenery looks like a curvy river of blooms. An aerial view gives a totally different perspective of the garden.

The phlox is on a roll right now. The variety you see in this pic, taken today, is 'tall phlox' which blooms in both sun & partial shade conditions.
Phlox is a herbaceous perennial. The three main types grown in gardens are creeping phlox, woodland phlox, and tall phlox. Colors range from white to shades of pink, purple, and blue.
