We're excited about what we're doing in 2026.

And that includes launching in Nova Scotia, Canada! We launched in Halifax Regional Municipality last summer, and we're going province-wide in 2026.

To do that, we’ll need beta testers from across the province. You can sign up for our beta program using this form.

Please boost for visibility 😀🚴🏼‍♀️❤️

Hi everyone. It’s Giving Tuesday, so I guess we should do a post here about Cycling Guide Foundation — we're not very good at this kind of request! 🤣

As many of you know, Cycling Guide is a free mobile app that provides the best available low-stress, cycling-friendly routes. Cycling Guide Foundation is a registered charity and the home of the app. It’s easy to make a one-time or monthly donation. And we’re now on Benevity, a corporate giving platform that some local company’s use — some of them will even match employee donations!

Please consider a donation to our foundation. It helps us keep the app free for everyone, and helps us make updates and add new features to the app.

We're happy to answer any questions you might have 😀🚴🏿‍♂️🚴🏼‍♀️🚴🏼❤️

Thanks!

In yet more community-oriented news, our Executive Director, Mark Connolly (@uxmark@mstdn.ca), did a presentation at the December @kwlug@thecanadian.social meeting. He spoke about our approach to routing, and how we use and process OpenStreetMap data. And people had some great questions, which made for a wonderful conversation. It's still fairly approachable, though, and anyone interested in the topic may learn something new!

Check it out the recording 😀🚴🏼‍♀️🗺️

Here's something cool. Communitech is a tech advocacy organization in Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada, where our Cycling Guide app was built and first released.

Our Executive Director, Mark Connolly (@uxmark@mstdn.ca), appears on the latest episode of Communitech’s Tech About Town podcast talking about our mobile app, our Foundation, and what we're trying to do to support people cycling. Check it out. The link below goes to Apple, but this episode should be available wherever you get your podcasts.

We neglected to share this previously!

Our free Cycling Guide mobile app is supported by the Halifax Climate Investment, Innovation and Impact (HCi3) Fund in Halifax. We're proud to have launched in Halifax Regional Municipality, and excited to continue to make progress with our partners at @cyclehalifax@mastodon.social

@Hansonthebike For us, OSM is a strength in our app, one that apps from bigger companies can’t replicate. That is, data is updated by OSM editors (including us) far more frequently. And for us to take advantage of that we need to refresh the data we use frequently. Our other strength is working with local cycling groups who bring their local knowledge and expertise to assessing our routes. You’ll know, of course, how important @bikeottawa has been in that regard!

@RichSPK@tech.lgbt Thanks Richard. 😀 We're rolling out in Ottawa ON, Sarnia ON, and Halifax NS this summer. As for other areas, we're workibg on it but we're a small team! Having said that, if you're interested in seeing it in your ccommunity, we're more than happy to chat about how we might make that happen. Mostly it comes down to finding a local cycling advocacy group to partner with and coming up with funding to support us! 😀🚴🏼‍♀️

@Hansonthebike I think you know that we’re big fans of OpenStreetMap and use their data in our app. And we refresh the data we use frequently to ensure we’re using the best and most current updates in our routes. Thanks for posting about OSM — it’s an amazing resource 😀🚴‍♀️❤️
