mastodon 4.7.3-stable+ff1New to Mastadon, never on twitter, abhor everything Meta. While the world falls apart, I am still passoinate about improving conditions in my watershed so all species thrive. Salmon rule! Work doing watershed restoration, specialize in bioengineering in the original sense of the word. Mitigating erosion with low cost, low tech, structures, using natural materials found on site. Collecting and spreading native plant seed where ever i go, hiking, backpacking and playing the fiddle keeps me sane.

The ever lowering baseline. I remember when thousands and thousands of salmon came up my river to spawn in the fall. Today's people get excited by a couple hundred fish. The meadows in my home creek watershed were 98% CA native. Then in early 2020 some do gooders weed whacked 5 miles of the verge of the rd. Required by the state for a pot growing permit. They introduced 5 highly invasive species because they came with seed contaminated weedwhackers. Then they weed whacked again the next year and spread inavasive seeds far and wide, as a requirement for their stupid pot grow, when all the newly introduced invasives were setting seeds. It's unbelievable how fast those introduced invasive annual grasses, moved from the rd to ridge tops covering average, and have wiped out the incredible plant diversity that coexisted in our meadows for thousands of years. . The human new comers have no idea of the tragedy that has unfolded because of their stupid weed whacking . The road to hell is paved with good intentions. And our fire hazard has increased 1000 fold with these annual grasses that build up thick mats of bone dry tinder by May ,and our lovely diverse low growing , fire resilient , native meadows are almost gone. It's unbelievable how quickly the destruction occured. And the next generation will know that man made out of balance mess . . as normal.

I watch these Namibia guys YouTube channel. they catch and release seals who've been caught in entanglements. They free hundreds every year and there is no end to it. Most have netting and fishing line deeply embedded in their necks and flippers. Humans really should be banned from earth.

Please sign this petition. Trump is about to dismantle the forest service and open our national forests to decimation by big timber and mining. It will undo the the "roadless act" which protects the few existing roadless areas we have left , and the all species that live there . He plans to close all regional forest service ranger stations. Which include employees who build trails, fight fires and keep campgrounds clean. No stopping in to ask where trails, or swimming holes are , no more topo maps. No more law enforcement if some drunk with a gun is shooting up a campsite. This is a huge loss to all who love recreating in the outdoors if we don't stop it.

These fucking AI companies have got to be stopped, they are heavily lobbying to deregulate healthcare. Nurses are having to submit bids for jobs and the lowest bidder wins. Big tech needs to be kneecapped ASAP.

The reason we have jury's at trials, and dont just run data on a criminal case, through a computer for the verdict, is because life is rarely black and white, and never, one size fits all.
Ocean Conservancy Namibia on the frontlines, they remove entanglements from thousands of seals every year, catching them on the beach with specially designed nets, with a zipper near the head ,so they can access the neck,... mostly without getting bit.

Out of curiosity I googled "how to knit thick soled socks " and quite a few things came up. Knitting using two different round needles at the same time came up, one does the bottom then switching to the top needle at the end of the row. Also some using a different stitch on the bottom.
