Pro democracy,
Pro compassion,
Pro critical thinking,
Pro habitable planet

⬆️ those qualities make me
anti fascist, anti colonialist, anti patriarchy, anti racist, anti war, anti surveillance, anti oligarchy, anti capitalist (etc)

Tax the wealthy until there are no more billionaires. Fascism is preventable, and its existence is the result of many policy failures, and people believing in incredibly stupid superstitions.

Generally kind to folks who aren't jerks

one thing I really dislike about living in this era of real fascism … committed by unfit losers is the “even so and so is appalled!!!” takes. Because it still centers and ... validates the opinion of …other regressive people; people who just drew the line a -little sooner- even as they normalize shitty policies which enabled these other folks, IOW: the folks who help pave the road to fascism still -get centered- and get to act appalled!!!, (just appalled) And lefties are still silenced.

#BikeTooter On repeat: if you simply slow down a bit, ding your bell (yes, a bell. It adds a whooping 1 oz to your bike) and wait for people to move or acknowledge they heard you, and say “thanks" as you pass, you will get TONS of smiles and spontaneous thank yous from virtually ALL demographics. It’s up to you (and them) what you do with those, but I guarantee you it’s far more impressive than you startling people as you rush by without saying anything. Share the trails

imagine naming yourself “wise human” and then engaging in things as stunted and stupid as wars, or creating social hierarchies and extreme inequities. Seems to me, truly wise humans would: be able to recognize unhealthy, stunted and unfit cultural norms, policies and laws as such, and then: simply refuse to go along with them. The fact that we have a chunk of folks who consistently fail to recognize or stop abusive ways of “ruling over” others… makes the term “homo sapien” laughable, imo.

@susankayequinn@wandering.shop it’s true. I have no denialists in my life (thankfully) but most people I know and care about...don’t seem to really -get- that we are well into the process of -tipping- into something not good. I think one other person I’m close to really gets it and that’s because they live in an area where they have had to evacuate for wildfires -multiple times- in the past few years. …it seems that most people I know still get their info mostly from corp/mainstream media

True, it’s -very- difficult to fight against violence prone jerks without also resorting to violence, and groups assaulted by “conquering” colonizing cultures were and still are at huge disadvantages. But the fact that we still have despots able to -rise- to power in 2026 means that authoritarian notions that should be easily seen as stunted and unhealthy ...are not seen that way by a chunk of humans. And also: that lack of knowledge among some continues to be weaponized and encouraged

I finally got around to Lerner’s The Creation of Patriarchy (1986), and wow. This excellent book launched the whole field of Women’s History- with cause. The beginning and end are where things really shine (imo). As with many books, the middle of it is full of (brutal) specific historical receipts which support the assertions she makes. Even if you think you know patriarchy, you’ll learn stuff. It was written in 1986, so there are a couple of ways she buys into ideas about “progress” that 1/2

saw research re: "authoritarian beliefs as a social contagion," and while I fully acknowledge that seems to happen, I am more interested in what makes some folks more susceptible to falling for the lies of it, whereas others seem to resist the worst parts And I think much of the answer is found by simply paraphrasing the words of one techno-fascist: it's the lack of introspection. IOW folks with stunted interior lives have no interior sense of right and wrong...🤷‍♀️ emotional awareness matters

any time you think: this isn't the future I want- remember: the wealth hoarding regressive control freaks* have -almost- enough of what they think they need (just like any late stage alcoholic thinks one more bottle... will be enough). Currently millions protest their acts and insulting disregard for humane policies... in between making rent, juggling childcare, bills, health issues, ICE raids, etc. *Bigots, billionaires and warmongers, and people who support them. Take 'em down already

Is anyone surprised that the CEO of Shopify is all in for restricting voting rights?

If so, consider:

Right wingers want to uphold “traditional” social hierarchies (the bigoted ones, not social hierarchies based on things like subject matter expertise).

Fascists do this at "extra spicy" levels.

Billionaires thrive in social hierarchies.

And, by their very existence, they *create* "extra spicy" levels of wealth inequities…

still have questions?

Tax or ____ the ultra wealthy

So the people tearing the world apart are so shallow they think being able to own 4 Lamborghinis proves they are top big boys!!!, and not greedy, shallow fools good at math and ruthless exploitation.

I mean how -emotionally stunted- they have to be to chase after and so fully -substitute- status symbols for character. Who does that?

But the main problem is…the systems allow/demand those super shallow people be able to control important directions in the way the world works… ya know?

RE: @juliette@mastodon.green

Oh how I wish more people understood this.

Especially around sciences- what gets funded, what doesn’t, what directions knowledge goes in are choices.

And they all have political consequences. Some incredibly harmful things are deemed “a priority” to know about (building weapons of destruction, ways to further relentless growth on a finite planet ex: developing technologies for fracking) while other really important and useful things are seen by some as frivolous or even dangerous.

@susankayequinn@wandering.shop this “Oh Nooo, I’m losing my place at the top of the heap!!!” is also anxiety from a zero sum mindset completely born of patriarchy and dominance based ideologies, and not of …healthier…ideologies. *and for the record: the definition of empathy isn’t set in stone , and many do not think simple pattern recognition of how a person might feel - or the ability to manipulate emotions in others... is sufficient to call it empathy. I don’t think it is, and most working clinicians wouldn’t either. And yes I know and -I don’t care- that one theorist said it was. Newsflash: there are many, many more folks in the field with plenty of expertise than that one person you’ve read about.

But it’s the existence of difficult circumstances and trauma that -causes- stuff to become real problems. And that is what policies should focus on eliminating, But -that- approach is really really inconvenient for certain folks*...who’d like to just call some folks “bad” or “defective" and put them into camps.

@paninid@mastodon.world I mean you have to do both. Self soothing is an important skill to have, but anger's been so weaponized! Plenty of people have habitually externalized their anger on the wrong things and people, and what also gets overlooked is there are plenty of times when really externalizing that anger and using it to take down abusers is completely appropriate, and really the only ethical action. But…instead there's this confusion about how to use emotions in healthy ways to fuel good changes

@susankayequinn@wandering.shop Yes, completely co sign. A thing that I’ve been chewing on lately is how consistently emotionally stunted the obvious losers have to be to keep believing the stuff they do, they twist themselves into pretzels so they don’t have to take responsibility for holding harmful beliefs or acting in harmful ways And socialization does go deep. Some folks really are so far gone they don’t know how androcentric they are, they see 30% women in a crowd and believe it’s a 50-50 split.

and a second piece from substack today that I’m not gonna link to. Imo: the first one was worth reading, but this one is Krugman (who has a -large- audience) and as is often case, his framing often still lags: he says climate scientists should be applauded but are “reviled”

Thing is they are not at all reviled by folks with critical thinking skills intact, ya know? They have been demonized by…stunted people, chasing money and power over others. which again, just isn’t emotionally healthy.

I don’t support, I dunno, tree disease. I’m troubled by it, but it’s true, I don't do much to stop it personally- because I don’t know how to. But I would. Psychologies matter much more than people like to admit. There are ICE goons out there so twisted and stunted they think they are heroes. Seriously. They believe they're heroes because folks they see as "authorities" tell them they are. And they have no interior lives to tell them they are being lied to or are lying to themselves. Patriarchy and crapitalism tell you emotions are frivolous. But our interior lives matter immensely in developing good judgement. You can get better at doing this

What's an emotionally healthy adult in -this- cultural reality? is a really good question. it's along the lines of "who is sane in an insane world?" But I do KNOW this: Recognized signs of emotional underdevelopment: extreme self absorption/self focus. Seems unable to take other people's perspectives, or see them as valid, callousness to suffering, willing to lie and steal and cheat (harm others) to get what they want. Will go into denial about harms they cause. Sound familiar to anyone?

Imo: it’s just not that hard to recognize authoritarians, but it does take some understanding that there are cultural level assumptions that exist, but remain invisible to many people. And those end up having outsized importance in how people act and in what they believe. Bigotry is a huge clue: sexism (50% of the population discounted right off the top) racism, religious supremacy, ableism, ageism, classism, etc. are all huge clues. okay, enough for now.

against women and children…

these are criminal CONVICTIONS on actions

1) that we know of
2) on crimes that have notoriously low convictions rates.

Another aspect that I had lost track of is: these inhumane POS are also kidnapping brutalizing and killing people for ...civil infractions.

for not having correct papers.

Abolish ICE is really the minimum.

Arrest prosecute and convict the abusers.

I like how justice systems often work as advertised for women who do shitty acts, but why do they so often fail to hold shitty men accountable? (Rhetorical question)
