While unfortunate that we will likely not gain a large body of people, I would say that there is also value in a small well educated base who are connected.

Protecting ourselves from bad sources of information is only going to become more important. Smaller group of people, less value in targeting us for misinformation.

I took a long break, but I'm back. Mostly because I swapped phones and had to reinstall and log back in and just didn't for a while 😂

Every time I helped someone I would look up their salary. I often found myself saving someone who made $150,000 - 300,000 a year weeks of time. I was the top performer by a long shot and I had automated a lot of the workflow (but not in a way that someone could replicate because I had not got that far yet) so if I left, they would lose all that automation. I asked for a raise, they said no, I left. Now I work for a much bigger company and make a whole lot more. Sometimes it works out. However! I have trouble telling anyone to take such risks. I did a lot of setup in my life to make that leap possible.

Like you need to fix a car engine and someone says, we should use a screw driver... Okay maybe that's part of the solution, but HOW should we use the screw driver?

I keep hearing that the problem in tech is getting people to care.

I don't think that's it. Just taking a day off of work requires like 2 webpages 12 clicks and some typing.

It should be 1 page and 2 clicks.

The website for taking time off, this day, take it off.

If we can't get that right, we definitely can't get anything else right.

Or try to buy something from Amazon. You put in a brand and it tries to give you other brands. Literally not what you are asking for. Or that you can't split the destination of the items in your cart. Or that you can't remove items from the shipping options screen.

How does any company that big with that much money fail at basic UI?

@timnitGebru@dair-community.social The answer is LLM's, image generators, and video generators. That's what most people mean when they say AI. Most other things are business people trying to get more investment dollars by saying their thing is AI. If you are more technical, you have better terms for the specific tools one is using as you have noted.
