@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social @madengineering@hachyderm.io it's not like the guy didn't announce being all that and more...
They still said: my neighbors are going to be so pissed off when I marry this makeup wearing, oversized suit wearing, corrupt, vindictive, raping and abusive soab, so it's all worth it.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social so champagne to the fridge on election night it is.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social in a way just a precursor to the inaction about Gaza... Human rights only "matter" if there's oil to be extracted or a convenient pipeline to be built...
Replying to
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social @janggolan@mastodon.social really surprising what a little not-war can change, if it's against the nation that used to let 20% of the world's oil supply through without charge or hindrance...

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I kind of lost count after 25 🤭

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social for better or worse... I mean, looking back at the last few presidencies and the foreign excursions of the US... And general understanding of human rights...
Who knows if it'll really be worse.
At least in regards to climate change: since capitalist societies don't want to change, it's pretty much set in stone. So if there's anyone who will come up with a solution, and is actually implementing stuff on a large enough scale, it's the Chinese.
Replying to
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social yup. American hegemony is over. Welcome the Chinese century(/ies).

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social recently saw something about the government troops using chlorine from water filtering systems given to them by aid organizations, to make chlorine gas to use against the Janjaweed...
And I mean, if anyone deserves it, it's them. But still...

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social consider how advanced the Greeks were. A nuke couldn't done more damage than the church.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social it's not only him. It's Putin, too. And our whole media landscape that normalized them. And our chancellor who thinks he can "reduce them to half" by parroting their talking points.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social just checked the german Wikipedia article, because I was irritated. This sentence stood out: "virtually eradicated in developed countries with good healthcare coverage"...
Replying to
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social @HolyCrap@troet.cafe kinda news to me that light would help in this kind of situation. 🤭
And in all fairness, for a lot of guys it probably still wouldn't help them find the sweet spot 😅

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social let's hope of the mosquitoes carry some pathogens.
Not a single one among them who doesn't deserve malaria
Replying to
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social that sounds very cool. They might actually be even more intelligent than we know: I recently saw a YouTube video about octopi who taught others things they'd learned, like opening jars. Which kind of was their limitation since the parents die while raising their offspring, so they couldn't pass on knowledge to them.
So who knows, maybe it will be octopi who take over as most dominant species, when humans managed to eradicate themselves...

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social not a lot of strawberries for me this year... Never had that happen before...
Replying to
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social you know, it was similar (on a smaller scale) when the Romans ruled the Mediterranean. Deforestation for ship building. They even had a little "global warming" back then.

So if only we would leave nature much more to itself, it would really help, too.
Replying to
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social so yeah. My hope is that the Chinese government realizes it's in their self-interest to ensure the survival of all of us. While at the same time being one of the main suppliers for our exaggerated lifestyle and on their way to become the biggest GHG emitter.... So... 🤷
Replying to
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social mind you the first time I heard about it was "an uncomfortable truth". Which IMHO was the first time it was discussed about openly. But the club of Rome was 1976. And the connection between greenhouse gasses and global warming was first made in the 1870s...
So it's not that we didn't know. It's that the people who made it into positions to do something actively chose not to.
And the much too little that has been done, has probably been undone by the Ukraine and Iran wars.
Replying to
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social my only hope nowadays is that China actually develops a big scale CO2 capture and storage solution and implements it. Because right now they're the only ones actually investing in a) renewables and energy storage in a big way and b) are doing projects that are so humongous in nature that it might actually do the job. And the Western
so-called "democratic" nations are much too slow and would rather see the world burn than lose economic leverage.
Replying to
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social First time I really started paying attention was when I did an internship in 2004 (23 y/o) in an organization which wanted to get CO2 emissions into account for investment assessments. We had a meeting with Big League stakeholders like SwissRe and MunichRe which are among the biggest investors and insurers of insurers worldwide.
They gave an account of the first hurricane in recorded history that made it down to Brazil....
The ratings agencies didn't show up though.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social only gonna get worse. Question is how much how fast. And Elon Trumputin are putting the pedal to the metal.
And my government is made up of wankers and biggest opposition party who'd rather do the classic "speed limit plus 10-20%" (which is what most people on the Autobahn do, too), than actually slowing down...

there've been floodings in Eastern Afghanistan, too.
Houses built of clay basically "melting" away, since rain lasting for 10 days and nights straight was completely unheard of before.
Their adaptation to the local climate doesn't work anymore, after millennia of how houses were built there, because the "weather" does things it never did before...
