I have a business idea. These Waymo and robo taxis are terribly expensive. The vehicle is $100,000+, you need a big lot for charging and cleaning, all these programmers for the software and billion dollar data centers. Why don't we give a person a $20,000 used car and a radio, have a person with a phone in your city. You call the phone person, request a ride, they radio the driver to pick you up and give you a ride to your destination. Much cheaper and lots of local jobs. #robotaxi #waymo

Waymo has started lobbying the city of Toronto and the province of Ontario to start operating in our streets soon. This is why we have started our "Say No to Waymo" campaign Read our open letter and sign our petition here: https://techfordemocracy.ca/2026/04/29/say-no-to-waymo/ Boost appreciated! #waymo #toronto #selfdriving #autonomousDriving

"The teens allegedly were drinking alcohol and shooting Orbeez beads as they rode in the driverless car." So a Waymo representative called the cop but also LOCKED THE 15-YEAR OLD IN THE CAR SO THEY COULDN'T GET OUT. And lied to them claiming the vehicle was "experiencing mechanical issues." So Waymo not only can and WILL report whatever you do or say in the car to the police but they won't let you leave until they give you to the cops. https://www.wpxi.com/news/trending/waymo-car-delivers-misbehaving-teens-california-police/UCOGYIJRHJG2LMHYWJQ3PH7VEY/ #police #fascism #waymo #car

#Waymo is so far refusing to answer questions regarding their kidnapping of two misbehaving teenagers and turning them over to police. Waymo has not as far as I know explained how they were alerted to the behavior, or how police became involved. Police officials are contradicting earlier reports from various media that the teens were locked in the vehicle. However, many reports are that the teens were lied to by Waymo and told there was a "maintenance issue" and then taken to a parking lot and stopped. They were apparently not informed that police were called, as Waymo was at this point obviously acting as an agent of law enforcement. At last report I've seen the teens have not been charged. Would a human cab driver have taken this kidnapping/lying approach? I would think it unlikely. We need to ask #Alphabet/Google CEO Sundar how far he'd go to satisfy the Trump administration in terms of Waymo-enabled kidnapping.

Ray Bradbury on police robocars Worth noting that the great Ray Bradbury, in a short story called "The Pedestrian", postulated automated robocars prowling around to kidnap anyone seen to be behaving in "unusual" ways. That was originally published in 1951. -L #waymo

HORRIFIC: Waymo robotaxi kidnaps and imprisons teenagers This story is much worse than I realized. Those drinking teenagers who were shooting Orbeez from a Waymo were not just reported to the police, Google/Alphabet literally kidnapped them, locking them helplessly in the vehicle, until police arrived. This is a scenario I predicted years ago, robocars kidnapping passengers and taking them against their will to "authorities". Imagine what Trump's DOJ would do with this power. Despite the fact that these teens were engaging in low level misbehavior, Google/Alphabet is NOT supposed to be an arresting agent of the government. What if one of those teens had suffered a medical emergency locked in that vehicle? THIS IS HORRIFIC. https://www.wpxi.com/news/trending/waymo-car-delivers-misbehaving-teens-california-police/UCOGYIJRHJG2LMHYWJQ3PH7VEY/ #waymo #google #alphabet #robotax #kidnapping

Waymo car delivers misbehaving teen passengers to San Mateo police "...The 15-year-olds allegedly were drinking alcohol and shooting water beads from a toy gun as they rode in the driverless car Monday, the police’s social media post said. Waymo stopped the car in a parking lot and notified the police, who detained the teens...." https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/07/07/waymo-car-reports-drinking-teens/ #waymo #crime

Feed: All Latest | Waymo Takes Its Self-Driving Cars to Virginia by Aarian Marshall AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Waymo has begun driving its self‑driving vehicles into Virginia’s Alexandria and soon Arlington to create ultra‑precise digital maps—a prerequisite for any future robotaxi service—though the state currently does not allow fully autonomous ride‑hailing and has no commercial launch plans yet. Waymo officials say the mapping phase is a preparatory step that could lead to service if Virginia’s legislature eventually authorizes driverless taxis, a process projected to take 12‑18 months and significant funding; a state bill aims to permit autonomous vehicles but isn’t expected to take effect before 2028. The effort reflects Waymo’s broader push to expand its paid‑passenger service, now operating in 11 U.S. metros with half‑a‑million weekly rides and targeting additional cities domestically and abroad, while it navigates regulatory hurdles, opposition in some regions, and recent operational setbacks such as software recalls and service pauses in flood‑prone areas. Feed: All Latest | Tesla Reveals New Details About Robotaxi Crashes—and the Humans Involved by Aarian Marshall AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Tesla recently disclosed details of 17 robotaxi incidents recorded between July 2025 and March 2026, highlighting two crashes in Austin where “safety monitors” seated in the vehicles asked for remote assistance and were then driven by remote workers into a metal fence and a construction barricade at speeds under 10 mph; both incidents caused only minor or no injuries. The reports underscore the role of human backstops in autonomous vehicle operations and raise concerns about the safety and visibility of remote teleoperators, especially given inconsistent cellular connectivity and latency issues. Tesla’s robotaxi service, operating in Austin, Dallas, and Houston with fewer than 100 vehicles and often with a safety monitor present, remains much smaller than competitors like Waymo, and the company’s frequent reliance on remote drivers distinguishes it from the industry norm of providing only advisory input.
