Happy on the trail. The first time in Urho-Kekkonen-Nationalpark and I'm flashed. Today the Iisakkipää-Trail. We climbed to the Iisakkipää peak and watched the landscape transform. The birch trees grew shorter, the conifers eventually vanished, and only dwarf birches were left carpeting the ground. The youtuber Andrewism said in one of their videos four years ago: "[...] when colonisers made landfall during the primary age of colonial conquest, they saw wilderness to be exploited rather than managed systems to care for and leave behind as a legacy for future generations" This is also the case in Saepmie, the land of the Sami people, colonised by Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia. The land is still viewed this way, as a wilderness to be exploited. #saepmie #sapmi #colonialism
