#ageism #oldage Old age is often associated with reliance on others, loss of independence and inactivity. But these simplistic notions mask the diversity of people’s experiences as they age, and can also lead to unsuitable policies and interventions — or even to explicit forms of ageism. https://theconversation.com/making-the-most-of-city-life-for-older-people-3-debunked-mobility-myths-276837

I'm seeing Linus Torvalds support for AI as a possible sign of cognitive impairment. Even if so it might AIUI take another 20 years before his functioning is clearly inadequate. But it's something worth considering about every aging human. And with old age beginning at 60 Linus is on the edge of that now. #LinusTorvalds #Linux #OldAge

You know you're getting old because your children no longer need you to solve their lives. And now they help you, they bring you food and they keep you company because they perceive you as vulnerable. On one hand, there's the sadness of slowly losing vitality, losing yourself, and on the other hand, the peace of mind of having that support in your later years and knowing that you didn't do so badly. #children #oldage #vejez #hijos

Deep into the second series of the fabulous HBO Max medical drama, The Pitt, this line popped out from a character & I wanted to share it for its wisdom & poignancy: 'While every old person knows what it is like to be young, no young person can know what it is like to be old...' That is not only a truism, but its a really instructive way of understanding the trouble that society often has with ensuring our older members have the best life they can.... #OldAge #politics #society
