@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange There are more problems with components than just monetization. Plug-in style extensions add extra layers of complexity for both developers and users. End users have to source and manage thier plug-ins. Developers often build their plug-in for only one operating system or one version of the application then abandon it. There are good technical and social reasons for projects (such as the Linux kernel) to use a monolithic model. @futurebird@sauropods.win

@iris_meredith It's interesting to see the connections you make, but overall I'd say the inhumanity of the tech industry is due to the capitalist superstructure rather than attributes of information workers. As a programmer that does think of myself more of a mental being than a body, I can't relate to the ideas that studying complex systems leads to a weaker sense of self or that body disassociation is an indicator for sociopathic violence (cf. heightened sensuality may fuel racial animus).

@qjurecic@mastodon.social This is a problem only journalists can solve by taking more control of the means of communication. There are endless ways to reach people on the internet and you can't be lazy here in using only one or two outlets. Not having unlimited resources, you still must choose wisely. Please continue to support open platforms like those based on ActivityPub. Engage with the developers to make sure your needs are met. Stand on some principles, do good work, and your audience will follow.

@futurebird@sauropods.win I'm surprised by the question, since as @InkySchwartz@mastodon.social says, the left is hyper-sensitive to control systems. Minimizing those is our raison d’être. The responses by @willyyam@mastodon.social, @huxley@mstdn.social, & @infryq@sunny.garden are also confusing. These are all examples of "irrational" behavior done to support hierarchy. Surely everyone knows (both left & right) why it's being done.
