I... bought an air conditioner on Friday night.
Took me a bit, and I had to break out my tools, but I have it hooked up for the last day and a half.
I can't believe I denied myself this amazing technology.
First good night's sleep in a month.

For those curious, my Elections Canada usb sticks now host Ubuntu Linux Server ISOs.

I am stunned by what has happened in Alberta.
... and sold out to separatists no less, and now leaked to gods-knows who. SMH.

Alberta has the highest costs for vehicle ownership in Canada.
And there is a group who are increasingly angry about 15-minute cities. Want to know how to guarantee that 15-minute cities happen?
Price the middle class out of vehicle ownership.
Looking at you, #ableg.
For context:
- During the #ForeverCanadian petition process, I was asked to sign not once, not twice, not three times... but seven separate times, by seven people, at different times and places, all in person.
- The separatist petition? 0.
I'm a known grumbler. #ableg #alberta
But kudos to AHS / Alberta Health for taking action on this: https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=959787D81AC5C-0FDB-2F65-D4D30D0A3B5F42D2
Hallucinating AI tech support chat bots are a layer of hell I didn't anticipate dealing with in 2026.

Yes, I am THAT neighbour who makes small talk in the elevator.
Be afraid. 🤣
Oh, LinkedIn, I howled when I saw this notification.
Of course I'm qualified to be the Assistant Deputy Chief of my local fire department. 🤣 #yyc #yyccc #LinkedIn
Never change, @linkedin@mastodon.social .
I don't blame the EFF for leaving Twitter.
99% of my peeps aren't on the platform anymore, either. Only having a 97% drop is impressive, really.
The people are just not there anymore.

@ChrisInToots@thecanadian.social Hopefully it has an impact, Chris! The 7-4 vote at committee has me somewhat flummoxed, but I'm hopeful the full vote at council (where there eill be 15 councillors in attendance) will put this proposal to bed.

@scuttlebutt@farticle.cloud I am not sure about that. We already make it pretty hard to engage folks in politics — and making sure no one can contact voters just makes it so that *only* people who can commercial lists will ever be able to reach large sections of the electorate.
That sucks and I experienced it in the 2021 municipal election (where a security scare stopped Elections Calgary from circulating a voters list).
It was awful. :/

In any event, meet my 3D printer. It might be due for an upgrade:

@RantingCanuck It's a mess — and these city councillors are making it so much worse.
- HAF / CMHC funding is gone,
- Housing types of so many varieties are gone, and,
- The affordability agenda has been dumped.
I'm horrified.

Going to spend the next little while thinking about the affordability crisis, the increasing inability to afford to exist in this city, and the massive ball that has been dropped.
So, I was helping a friend, and I needed to move a Workspace subscription from one account to another (it's attached to a Bluehost account in question). #Bluehost
Bluehost's only way to resolve their broken system is to nuke the entire Google Workspace profile, delete every email and delete the drives.
So I need a new domain host. Bluehost ain't cutting it.
Any recommendations? #Hosting
Attention Calgary: if we make it harder to build housing and go back on our signed agreements with the feds, 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸. #yyc #yyccc #Housing #cdnpoli

A lucky guess! Anyways, probably worth someone checking in on the Wordle team. A lot of their word choices recently... have been negative ones.

Massive.
My apartment has been an average of 27-29 degrees for the last few weeks, and to have a room be 19 degrees... it's palatial. My god.

What prompted my week-long think about the issue:
Yeah, it's hard for me to get excited about the Olympics this year.
... particularly since the games should have been held in Calgary.

@TheWillofAvis@mastodon.world With today's infrastructure and the ongoing dismantling of sport/cultural facilities throughout Calgary, the answer is a clear no.

@gbenntt Brexit is the single greatest self-own any country has done to itself in the last 50 years.
My one guilty pleasure is reading Brexit news. Started following it in 2013 and haven't stopped since. It's just the gift that keeps on giving, at least in terms of entertainment.
Update: Council will now only allow the building of single family homes, and only single family homes, in ~68% of the city.
It's a blanket ban on building housing.
Just another blanket. This time, snuffing out affordability.
This afternoon I had the pleasure of presenting to city council on the subject of their review, and city administration's recommendation, to close down the Free Fare Zone.
The free fare zone is a program that has a set of stations that bisects the heart of my neighbourhood in downtown Calgary be usable at no cost, to the great benefit of local residents, community partners, businesses and tourists. #yyc #yyccc #Calgary
