@leo plus windows update has that "download from local windows devices" thing which has dramatically lowered the amount of bandwidth necessary when I'm updating like fifty devices at once. when the dumb thing works, of course, which is not guaranteed. but like in theory the p2p updating thing should be better than hitting a server fifty times for a 4gb file

@leo of course I've also seen a macos update completely break the camera firmware of a modern macbook pro so. I guess os updates are just more prone to being bad than browser updates lmao but I think the larger that browsers get the less true that will be over time

@cwebber personally very much looking forward to seeing (if/when/how) fedi implement portable identity!

@leo that's actually horrifying that a single update is at all comparable to an entire industry considering the livestock industry is wildly varied and produces several actually useful things. I wasn't planning on switching off chrome at work but you're convincing me

@leo I guess it's not *that* bad (I didn't look at the numbers in the blogpost lmao I just saw I had the 4gb model and went what the fuck) but it's still probably putting up huge numbers for a single relatively-invisible automatic software update with obscure opt-out mechanisms

@leo yep and a minute of livestock industry is significantly more beneficial than whatever chrome's doing. could probably pop out several dozen eggs in a minute

me and misunderstanding subposts name a more iconic duo (sorry to go off on you)
