I prefer not to be referred to with pronouns, but they/them/theirs is ok if you must.

On the subject of #Technology is neutral... What is a non-contrived use of a sword other than violence? Every tool is a weapon if you hold it right, but the converse is not always true... Technologies are often built with a purpose, and using it for other things *might* happen, sure, but some are less likely to be so flexible. Some serve large and powerful interests more readily than the common person. No technology exists outside of the society in which it is used. Just saying.

Still seem to have dodged #Covid so far...

But did get something nasty on my way to, from or during a conference last weekend...

First time in 5 or 6 years I have gotten sick, actually, which has been a nice respite, honestly!

I #WearAMask whenever I am in enclosed spaces with others outside my household.

If 90% of everyone on the busses, trains, cars, and conference had been masking... the last few days I would have probably felt just fine...

Unfortunately, that is not my reality. :(

For our upcoming #Aikido and #Iaido seminar with Yelitza Cuevas Sensei, I proposed an experiment to host an open mat on the last day, for anybody who still has enough energy to try and work through or experiment with the techniques shown during the seminar ... while it is still fresh in memory!

The number of times I've gone to a seminar, and just a day or two later cannot remember those one or two really cool things...

Will see if folks show up and how it works out!

It has been a real long time since I read it, but apparently #KurtVonnegut published Player Piano in 1952!

That's, like, *lots* of decades ago...

Good thing today's technology is actually solving all our problems, instead of just making new ones!

@danct12@social.treehouse.systems#PineBookPro was my primary computer for probably two years. It was good enough for most things, and running off of #Solar was pretty nice to mostly draw under 10 watts. Still use it a few times a week for various things. The barrel jack power supply is broken, but usb-c power still works, and there's a crack on the plastic frame near the hinge, or I would probably use it more... I had previously also used the original #PineBook regularly for a couple years, so was a huge upgrade!

So, I was handing off responsibility for watching an inbox, and had the terrible idea to make a haiku-esq response mentioning the emptiness of the inbox and non-attachment.

I clicked on "send" and the mail client helpfully popped up a message to make sure I really wanted to send the email, as it was missing the mentioned attachment.

Kind of made my day on multiple counts.

@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io Not only is that really fascinating, it is even a bit of a mystery, or at least not what one would expect! "The river maintains its high temperature despite not being near any known active volcanoes or geothermal vents ... The predominant theory for the source of this heat is from the geothermal gradient of the Earth."

The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the possibly overloaded uses of the ssh-agent ... #radicle is not really using it for ssh, as far as I can tell, but just as a general public/private key client interface? I typically use the authentication keys from an opengpg smartcard, and not entirely sure the ssh-agent interface is compatible with using arbitrary ssh keys...

@benjamineskola@hachyderm.io @liw@toot.liw.fi I think the big innovation was predictible freeze cycles, rather than a scheduled release date that many projects use... this still allows releasing when ready, while coordinating when to really focus on the release... I think this happened maybe 2009-ish?

@liw Thanks for the reminder! Have a (short) trip I have been nervous about planning as I had not been there before and it is a bit of a smaller town... but it at least spells out a bit about the public transit options, limited though they may be. It also includes a link to a bike route map, which is a really compelling option for me!

@miketheman @pypi What sort of "Trusted Publishing" does this do? Signed packages? Provide sufficient information to attempt and verify #ReproducibleBuilds ? Chains of Provenance?

@bkuhn@fedi.copyleft.org Sorry, I can only say I make that mistake routinely after 27~28 years of making symlinks with the "ln" command... I have no idea what that would be like after 30 years!

@daniel@gultsch.social What does tell you about the ethics of a US 501(c)3 non-profit organization is their legally binding mission or purpose, the transparency and reporting requirements, and the decisions of the board that oversees the organization. What I find a little disconcerting is having a subsidiary of the non-profit being a LLC for-profit entity without all the transparency and mission-based requirements... But sure, any system can be gamed...
