The “tech” industry, whatever that means, has always had issues, of course, but the past five years at least has progressed into an almost daily feeling of “is this what it feels like to have a stroke”.

@cstross it also provides a fig leaf of justification for a public SpaceX to shovel money to xAI when “because I want to” becomes harder to justify. They’ll need somebody to provide expert design partnership to solve these difficult technical problems. (Or the other way around if required.)

@queenofsquiggles@transfem.social the current market is… special… but I’d say that many places that are snobbish about self taught will *also* be snobbish about an associates degree. But if the college actually has internship or job placement programs that will be massively helpful in getting past the first hurdle.
