As my kids watch movies with their cousins, I'm marveling once again at how Charlie and the Chocolate Factory used so much money and talent only to produce a much shittier and ultimately smaller-feeling movie than Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

I make websites, read comics, watch horror movies, play board games and video games, ride bikes, and try to hang with my family and friends as much as possible. Plainclothes goth. Non-practicing atheist.
Woke up in a "what if I actually just suck" brain fog this morning, ugh.
I'm also dropping eaves on another table and it's three dudes talking about deer hunting. I am not a hunter, I am not interested in becoming one, but these guys love it so much, and love talking to each other about it. Sometimes listening to people talk about a little thing they love is edifying, even if it's not your little thing.
Sitting at a picnic table at a food truck lot drinking a fine pale and working on a lil personal project that's been on my back burner for ages. I know I need to find a new Real Job soon but I'm trying to savor this moment.
Spotted some wild lenticular clouds this morning over the Cascades.
One problem is that a chat interface, even a really good voice one, is a limited interface for complicated systems. The Enterprise from TNG had a brilliant voice interface and yet the ship abounded with touch-based UIs. Sometimes you gotta slide the slider, folks. Turn the knob. Hover over that button until just the right moment.
My community is considering putting this bit of public art in a roundabout and I can't express how much I want it to happen. "Winged Victory of the Deschutes" by Pete Beeman. If you live in Bend, pleeeeese vote for it!
What's an "extravagant" purchase for yourself? Not a gift for someone else, not a necessity for yourself. Something that you want, something that you desire. Value in your local currency.
I think at about $50 USD for an item I start to feel kinda guilty. Even though I'll spend that on a nice meal out without blinking.
I think there is probably a sliding scale based on income/savings, but that's also part of the question, I guess.
