Woo hoo! First release on subvert.fm! Do you like songs that kindasorta yell at Trump voters and Musk sycophants? This is a track for your collection.
My recording setup is not operating, so this is pretty janky (but that's punk, right? right?) I have to upload at least one track RealQuickNow to stay a member of the coop, and I think pure pissed-off-ness and cynical acoustic anger should count for something.
I've been kind of absent from here for a while. But now! A video of a very bad but very fun guitar! That I made! First one ever!
Materials:
* Galvanized steel washtub
* 2x4 (i.e., wood)
* walnut piece (fingerboard)
* fret wire
* guitar tuners
* rusty bolt
* piece of pipe from a lamp
* floor base of a different lamp
* scraper blade from oscillating tool
* bicycle chain
* luggage strap
* 1/2 inch EMT (galvanized) conduit
* thick wire from a yard sign
* piezo buzzer from some toy
* 1/4 inch female audio jack
* wire, solder, some screws, etc.
(this is 5 minutes of me showing the guitar and playing some random things to show how it sounds)
So #subvertFM seems really promising, but there's no way for me to make my music available there for free without paying a service fee to stripe.com (payment processor). subvert.fm mods in their forum have put discussions of this in a megathread about payments and archived (locked and maybe deleted?) conversations about this while they work out "stripe-less free downloads" "soon".
this might work for some. I have no intention of charging for music at the moment, so I'll use subvert.fm when it acquires the ability to distribute my music the way I'd like to do it.
Back to the drawing board.
I'm in love with this woman. Have been for a few years. And I write songs.
These two facts do not play well with each other.
I want to write songs about her, about us, about our lives. I have learned this is often a recipe for shitty, awful, embarrassing, cringeworthy songs. So many awful songs.
Trauma? Easier. Relationships two decades ago? Easier. Unrequited #love? Easier. Songs about a person I'm in love with and happy with right now? Minefield.
Story about someone obsessed with tracking down the author of successful WLW stories, only to find that they are a man. They expose the author as inauthentic. Then they find out the man is also a front, lending his name and identity--just in case someone saw past the pen name--to a transwoman who begs the man not to name her publicly.
I might read and/or watch this.
