The Arcane Composer
mastodon 4.7.3I’m Bren, a composer, orchestrator, writer, and gamer from Ireland. I write music, including music for videogames, and I write (mainly) about music.
Currently working on a soundtrack album for your fantasy TTRPG.
He/him. Frequently tired.
Heads-up for new followers: I’m open to most everyone, but if you don’t have a profile pic or any posts, that’s probably a nope. At least send me a message. Also I don’t like AI, so if you have an AI image for a profile pic I’ll probably decline that too.
Hi, I’m the Arcane Composer. I’m a classically-trained composer who makes music for and inspired by TTRPGs, in particular the D&D gothic horror adventure Curse of Strahd. My main influences are traditional film scores and game scores, and my music is atmospheric and lyrical.
If you think my work sounds interesting, I’ve recently set up a Patreon, and I’d love your support. https://www.patreon.com/c/TheArcaneComposer

Just read about a Canadian tech CEO who paid the Toronto Symphony Orchestra $400,000 so he could conduct them playing Mahler. Reports from the musicians seem to suggest that they were really not following him and were listening to each other. He had lots of talk about how it was his job to earn the musicians’ trust and how he spent months leading his own ensemble, rehearsing with the TSO, and watching videos of conductors, but it seems like not once did he consider taking a conducting lesson.
Oh, it’s #MusiciansDay? It’s also my birthday. I hope you”ll forgive me milking it.
I’m a classically-trained composer making a large-scale gothic soundtrack for the D&D adventure Curse of Strahd, along with other soundtracky things.
If that sounds interesting, I’m on Bandcamp, YouTube, and Patreon. You can hear a sample below, if your client supports audio.

#Music #game #Soundtrack #TTRPG I guess even though I wrote it for a videogame I think it’d work for a sci-fi TTRPG.
My review of the Finding a Voice music festival in Tipperary last weekend. It’s a festival dedicated to historical and living female composers. Very cool stuff. #newmusic #classicalmusic #review https://journalofmusic.com/reviews/conversation-changes-work-continues

New instance, new #introduction:
Hi! I’m Bren, and I’m a composer, orchestrator, teacher, and writer. I mainly write in a post-Romantic orchestral soundtrack style. I’ve written and orchestrated music for videogames, and I’m currently writing an album I intend as accompaniment for your fantasy TTRPG.
There’s a showreel of recent and forthcoming orchestral work below. Let me know if you give it a listen.

Sarah Fritz’s great blog on Clara Schumann (regrettably hosted on Substack) is back after a year hiatus with a blinder of a post on Yuja Wang, Norman Lebrecht’s sexist bullshit, and (of course) Clara. https://sarahfritz.substack.com/p/what-clara-schumann-would-say-to
Some time ago I started toying with the idea of writing TTRPG soundtracks, but it took me a while to pick a good starting point. Eventually I started running a group through the D&D adventure Death House, and scored it as I went. This is the result.
Each track can be downloaded for free individually. You can purchase the album to support the project and access seamlessly looping versions of the music.
I’ve got a new showreel. This one exclusively uses gothic horror music that I’ve written for Curse of Strahd, all from 2024.
Take a listen and let me know what you think.
