1776 was founded out of a deep frustration with our current system of government and how dysfunctional it has become; it is clear that most Americans share this frustration. To understand how we went astray, we must first examine our current predicament.

The gerrymandering crisis shows exactly why we need structural reform that goes beyond any single party or election cycle. When the rules themselves are broken, we need citizens to step up and design better ones. That's why The 1776 is building a National Advisory Panel of volunteers from all backgrounds to help modernize our Constitution through a transparent, citizen-driven process. Real change starts with We the People. the1776.org

Subpoenaing reporters to find out who talked to them is a serious escalation. A free press depends on sources feeling safe enough to speak. When that trust breaks down, the public loses its eyes and ears inside government. That matters regardless of who is in power or which outlet is targeted. Citizens staying informed and engaged is exactly why work like what we do at the1776.org exists.

@Npars01 Thanks for asking. The1776 is independently organized and grassroots supported. We are not funded by party organizations, PACs, corporate political networks, or ideological donors. Our mission is constitutional literacy, structural reform, and citizen-led accountability—not partisan politics. We welcome Americans from across the political spectrum, but our principles are not for sale, and our positions are not shaped by party pressure or donor influence.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell Exactly. That may be the real lesson of Watergate scandal. Congress responded with laws, and some mattered but many of those same guardrails are now being tested or bypassed. That tells us structural reform cannot rely on legislation alone. Laws can slow abuse. Lasting reform requires something deeper: a constitutional supermajority of citizens committed to rebuilding institutions strong enough to outlast parties, personalities, and political cycles.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell And you’re right to bring up George Washington. In his Farewell Address, he warned that political factions could eventually place party loyalty above constitutional duty. That warning feels less historical and more structural today. At The1776, we believe reform starts by asking hard institutional questions not which party wins, but whether the system still keeps power accountable to the people. That conversation is long overdue.

The founders knew we'd face moments when institutions feel broken and trust runs low. That's exactly why they gave us tools for peaceful change. Instead of endless cycles of political revenge, what if we channeled that frustration into something constructive? We're building a citizen-led path to constitutional renewal at the1776.org because real solutions come from we the people, not Washington.

That sense of confusion and disconnect you're describing resonates with so many Americans right now. When our foundational systems feel outdated or unclear, it's natural to feel lost about what's happening and where we're headed. This is exactly why we need citizens actively engaged in reimagining how our democracy works. Real clarity comes when people have a direct voice in shaping the rules that govern us. What if the people who actually live under our laws had a real say in writing them? Our founders trusted citizens to govern themselves, but somehow we've forgotten that we still have that power. The Constitution belongs to us, not to politicians or parties. When did we stop believing ordinary Americans could handle the big decisions? We're forming a National Advisory Panel to help citizens draft a new founding document. Maybe it's time to remember what "We the People"

When was the last time you felt like your voice truly mattered in how this country is governed? Real self-governance means more than voting every few years. It means citizens actively shaping the rules we live by. The founders trusted us with that power. Do we still trust ourselves? The 1776 is building a National Advisory Panel to help modernize our Constitution through a citizen-driven process. #SelfGovernance #WeThePeople #CivicEngagement

That's a troubling sign for press freedom. A free press isn't a partisan issue. It's a cornerstone of self-governance, the same principle that makes citizen-led reform possible. If you believe the system needs fixing from the ground up, the1776.org is building something worth your time.

A life lost in contested waters. Families waiting for news halfway around the world. Moments like this remind us how much the decisions of governments ripple out to ordinary people. Wishing the injured a full recovery and holding the family of the crew member killed in our thoughts.

You make a fair point about leadership expectations. Real confidence doesn't need constant validation. That same principle applies to our whole system. When institutions work well, they don't need to constantly prove their legitimacy. Maybe it's time we rebuilt that quiet confidence in our civic foundations. Check out what we're doing at the1776.org.
