IntergalacticFM Festival 2026 was crazy fun! I am left speechless by the weekend. Instead, here's a promo mix I did for the festival. Banging #electro from Dark Vektor, Ole Mic Odd, Reptant, Human Rebellion and many many more!

#DiggingInTheShelves No. 18
Various - Café Del Mar Volumen Ocho
Manifesto (2001)
https://www.discogs.com/release/48238-Various-Caf%C3%A9-Del-Mar-Volumen-Ocho

When did I buy this? Why? No idea. But let's have a listen. "Goldfrapp - Utopia (New Ears Mix)" is a wonderfully haunting piece of music. "Thomas Newman - Any Other Name" from the film "American Beauty" is another beautiful track with a simple piano melody, and strings that don't distract from its simplicity. [1/2]

John Tejada/Arian Leviste - Where Circles Begin
Moods & Grooves (2000)
https://www.discogs.com/release/3756-John-TejadaArian-Leviste-Where-Circles-Begin

2000 release on Mike Grant's Moods & Grooves label blends turn of the millennia Detroit sounds with deep/tech house. And to prove that point, "Throwback" is a fairly fast-paced track with melodies that wouldn't be out of the place on Detroit releases from the era. [1/2]

DJ Koze - Amygdala
Pampa Records (2013)
https://www.discogs.com/release/4397265-DJ-Koze-Amygdala

DJ Koze's Amygdala is one of those records I appreciated once, but I struggle with now. First half in particular. The tracks are well made, especially for a time when deep house in general had already made its inevitable jump to cocktail house. Tracks just leave the current me a little cold. The album does pick up during its second half. [1/2]

Grungerman - In Tyrannis / Ambient Grunge
Kreisel 99 (1999)
https://www.discogs.com/release/42622-Grungerman-In-Tyrannis-Ambient-Grunge

Originally released on Profan in 1995, this was the first Kreisel 99 I ever bought. The label was a 52 release weekly countdown series of 7 inches that ran from 1999 to 2000. [1/2]

And what a start, this EP by Mika Vainio under the Tekonivel alias is such an irreverent banger.

Mr Velcro Fastener Featuring Laser Squad - Electric Appliances Remixes
i220 (2000)
https://www.discogs.com/release/47855-Mr-Velcro-Fastener-Featuring-Laser-Squad-Electric-Appliances-Remixes

Classic Mr Velcro Fastener from 2000. The first golden era of Finnish #electro. Original hasn't lost any of its luster over the years, still funky as ever. Very danceable. The Mat 101 remix goes for a more squeaky electronic sound. The reinterpretation is interesting, but the sound is a bit too high pitched.

[2/2] Tenaglia's Detour Mix is closer to what you would expect from the man. It's a 10 min tribal house track, but it holds up pretty well. I have certainly heard some much weaker takes on the genre in the past few years. Pal Joey's Cumulo Nimbus Mix is the weak one of the bunch. It's nice, but somewhat underwhelming and a bit pointless. The EP finishes with One True Parker Mix, which is somewhat repetitive drum & bass track, but it has certain charm and energy to it. I like it.

Low Tape - Road Valley
X-Kalay (2019)
https://www.discogs.com/release/13031623-Low-Tape-Road-Valley

"Road Valley" is spacey Detroit influenced electro. "Red Lights In Ma Eyes", "Why Is Life So Strange" and "Acid Television" go instead more into UK electro territory with tracks from Radioactive Man and Carl Finlow coming to mind. And "Technovia" is something that wouldn't have sounded out of place on F-Communications. Excellent EP and still one of my favourites.

Sababa 5 - Sababa 5
Batov Records (2022)
https://www.discogs.com/release/24309920-Sababa-5-Sababa-5-

I stumbled onto this Tel Aviv band a couple years back via a single of theirs and this album became an instant buy. Music is a blend of different Middle Eastern styles and 70's funky vibes. Album itself is instrumental and fairly laid-back, as the cover would suggest. Hard to pick a favourite from the bunch, since listening to it whole carries me to a happy place.

[2/2] It includes three nuclear acid attacks from Passarani 2099, Cylob and Beverly Hills 808303. First two are quite typical mid-90's Rephlex tracks. Fast and not necessarily for lengthy listening sessions with their screeching sounds. However, I-F's "Pain In The South Pacific" is a haunting descent into oppressive acid dystopia. Brilliant stuff. Ectomorph's track is a bit of an outlier here with its strip down electro. Feels a bit lacking in the context.

[2/2] "Shadow Scope" is a decent opener, but doesn't quite reach its destination. "One Hour Before Dawn" is a more dancefloor friendly jam with a nice italoish touch. "Shortwave Radio Antenna Down" is probably the weak one of the bunch, nice atmospheric track that doesn't really go anywhere. "Into the Zone" and its Heinrich Dressel Remix are the highlights of the EP. Original is an epic synthwave anthem, while the remix strips it down and adds some energy to it.

[2/2] First of which is "Space Helmet", a more subdued disco affair that nonetheless chugs along like a steam train. "Inner Vision" is a more melancholic disco track with some nice melodies keeping it interesting. There are no real weak tracks on this EP, but "Kirjastolaulu" is the real star here.

[2/2] The album harkens back to the early 00's with its sound, without going too Int. Gigolo on us. It mostly consists of dancefloor friendly tunes, but there are a couple of slow numbers that give a welcome respite from the action. Hit of the record is the aptly named "Dancefloor Hedonism" that does exactly what it says on the tin. A proper thumping synth disco burner.

[2/2] "All Day All Night" is a faster joint, but there is just something a bit pointless to it. Last is the "Sundown Edit" of the title track with less hiss and more speed. It works well enough to earn a spot on the record and is a bit more suited for the dancefloor.

[2/2] The Tensnake Remix of Manthem sounds very much of the man, everything is turned a bit higher and with the shuffled drums we're very much in the cheese territory. A bit too much, even for a nu-disco EP. The highlight of the record is the Knightlife Remix of Bubble Bath. It's a more laidback and cowbell clanking version with groovy drums. Wouldn't be out of place on some DFA record from the 00's.

[2/2] Steve Moore's 2019 ambient album is not particularly long, only clocking in at 37 minutes, which is probably its weak point. The tracks are well done, but with its soundtrack style approach (not surprising for the man) you feel like the story misses a few beats. Album is still a very enjoyable and its mixture of electronic, acoustic and vocal elements make the experience more rounded.
