Japanese attitudes toward gaijins living in Japan. #japan #gaijin
A girl on Instagram complains that she loves Japan. It's beautiful, safe, and people are nice, but she still feels an invisible wall and a sense of distance from locals.
In the comments a Japanese woman replies, fairly politely: "Maybe you young people should go back to your own country and do the same thing there. Modern Japan is the result of many generations of local effort. Go home, become a politician, and work for change there."
This is why gaijins aren't respected. They rush into someone else's country instead of working to improve their homelands. They pretend to be special and demand respect. That won't happen. Even if you learn the language perfectly and behave like an exemplary local, it doesn't change the fact that you left your homeland. From a Japanese perspective, that is an unforgivable betrayal. So you may be treated politely on the surface, but there can still be underlying contempt.
