Special Skills: Guessing the animal you're trying to remember with minimal clues or context.
Profile picture is a cartoony sketch of a Malayan tapir leaping.
A pair of Canada geese let me take photos of their six goslings yesterday. #birds #birdwatching #CanadaGoose
Some birds that I saw today: a tree swallow, a house sparrow who was very proud of her bugs, a ruby-throated hummingbird, and a common merganser with 14 babies in tow. #birding #birdwatching
This afternoon, I realized that there's an American redstart nest in the magnolia tree that I can see from the living room, and there are at least three bouncy little babies in it! #birding #birdwatching #wildlife #WesternMassachusetts
For anyone who follows me because of woodworking: I'm going to be presenting at the Fine Woodworking New England event in Manchester, CT next weekend. If you happen to be going, please say hi! #woodworking

If you’re in the #Philadelphia area, a cabinet that I made is part of a juried exhibit at the Wayne Art Center from now until January 24.
The opening reception for the show was last night, and there are over 100 pieces in all different media. There are so many beautiful and unusual things to see!
Also, my cabinet won an Honorable Mention!
Since I think I have a few Western Massachusetts followers here, I'm showing about a dozen woodworking pieces at the Hosmer Gallery at Forbes Library in Northampton this month. I hope you'll check it out!

Chatty little bobolink, seen on June 4, 2025 in Hadley, Massachusetts
Thought folks might like to see this good dog I met today. His name is Peak.
This little bird flew into the woodshop this morning and couldn’t figure out how to get out, so I had to give it some help.
I’m not sure what kind it is. There are a lot of house finches right outside, so it could be one of them. But it has a lot of sawdust on it from flapping against the dusty windowsill, so it’s hard to see what markings it has. Its feathers may have been slightly puffed out because of the stress of the situation.
I snapped a few pictures and then released it, and it flew off with no trouble.
