I am baffled why people are going "oh no what is to be done" about openai breaking into a competitors computers, when it is incredibly obvious: Charge them under the CFAA. "Oh but their research". Sandbox it from the Internet. "Oh it's too hard to do that". Skill issue, get good.

Too much of the discussion of the new boom in datacentres is binary, you are either entirely for or against them.
Instead I would suggest a more useful approach is to think about roads. Just because I use roads doesn't mean I am automatically going to be in favour of every new proposed freeway or toll road. Scale, location, and purpose all matter. This also applies to new datacentres.
So we were super confused why the bathroom in our new house seemed to have no powerpoints. Like, none at all. We looked repeatedly. Other people including the real estate agent looked. My niece was around today and found it.

You're right tho. The dotcom bubble produced useful output, like massive fibre builds. This stuff? Not so much. Massive future laser tag arenas full of the most expensive ewaste in history.
