I recently finished reading Nettle and Bone, by @ursulav@redwombat.social

Brilliant book. A brave princess (youngest of three, naturally) teams up with a witch to take down an evil prince.

You could call it a feminist subversion of fairy tale tropes, but that is selling it short. It's also a love letter to fairy tales.

I still don't like the character creation chapter. I think I might go back to classic phased character creation, where each player has two backstory adventures with different PCs. It might be fun to have tables to roll on for adventure ideas. I hate to lose the role system. Is it too much to have both phases and roles? #faterpg #TDG

@cstross@wandering.shop Thanks for sending me down a dictionary rabbit hole. Some of these are merely uncommon, and some of these are extremely obscure. A few technical terms: Two relate to feudal titles, two about insects, and two about chemistry. Apparently "ichneumon" can mean "wasp" or "mongoose," which is just silly. Obnubliated? That is a very obscure word, that means "obscured." I may have to start using it.

The book needs a whole new section for aspects. I plan to do my own take on Fate's three-phase character creation anyway. Why write an aspect section that will have to be re-written to fit the three-phase system? That's why I missed updating the game in April.

Weird video game idea: A tic-tac-toe board instead of hit points. Has this been done?

Imagine attacks and defenses target a row or column. An enemy that predictably targets a certain row would be easy to defend against, but will fill up that row fast if you miss a defense.

You could have a perfect defense with three defend actions, but that maxes out the ANSI-standard 3 energy per turn.
