@yossarian@infosec.exchange my favorite thing about parallelized jobs is unoptimized base images that eat pipeline minutes installing the same packages and extensions 10 times 😭🤣

Cont. If I check the whole queue 4x a day (or even 2x) to make sure CI is passing, SRP, SAST/Snyk passing, all the labels are right and accurate…I’d NEVER get anything done. The MR author HAS to be trusted to do those things. If they don’t, it doesn’t get reviewed, because it doesn’t get seen. And, the ones that ARE ready to review, usually sail right though. 2/2

Have you combined Tailscale + a phone SSH client + Claude (or CLI agent of choice) yet? If not, you should. Outrageously satisfying to be able to have an idea and dispatch it from my phone, then get back to the computer later to put a bow on it.

Steve Yegge can come across as a goofball, but I love his writing style. He’s all tech, no f*cks. I started using beads this week, and introduced another coworker to it.

Does anybody have any tips for how to deal with BC breaks when there isn't an obvious upgrade path? What if there are multiple ecosystems (plugins, userland code). I hate breaking stuff for people but my code has to move forward :/

I got le Fable (pronounced, "fob-luh") up to 66% usage before my limits reset for the week, and that's me pushing it HARD...four tabs, using non-self-terminating loops, in danger mode (which I never run).

Just went through my AMZN wishlist after a bit. PS4 DualShock controller is $84.95 - in what universe?!! I don’t have much time for gaming lately anyways, especially not when the Fable window keeps getting pushed out 😅

I started an 🍎🎵sub to keep my kids' music recommendations from leaking into my own. I'm really frustrated with the desktop client's performance. There's a huge amount of lag hitting the 'star' button to favorite something. I know this gets said a lot, but IDK if Steve would be very happy with this. The UX is just not there. Maybe web iface is better? Will try there sometime.

When I daydream, it is to wish to wake up in a cozy Medieval tavern, the environment aglow with candlelight and the air full of the latent scents of...IDK castles and stuff. But THEN, to zip into my time machine and go work my modern, high-tech job (I still love programming). I'll return to my tavern after a day's hard work, relax, and unwind with an ale in hand watching faeries and wyverns flit about the landscape.

https://youtu.be/d-zn5qEE7ow ~ groovy like a smoothie. Sidenote: Does anyone know a good browser extension for copying a page's title/link to clipboard Markdown-style, with customizable rules per-site?

Been using Auto mode more lately (it defaults to on 8/14). Pros: don't have to approve a million web requests for long-running research tasks. Also, for well defined tasks ("copy this infra from dev to QA") it's a time-saver. Cons: I use the glab CLI to create MRs and such. Auto mode has posted SO MANY g*dd*mn comments "as me" that it's insane. Corrections, and corrections to corrections (I sh&t you not). Gotta get it under control.

Putting this out to my followers. If you can grab a ticket to LonghornPHP [1] this year, you should! Come on down to Austin and eat BBQ and learn PHP (and other things!) I know @ian@phpc.social and a couple other organizers, have been to the past two LHPHPs virtually, and can’t wait to finally attend in person. We all wanna see you there, too! Can’t make it in person? Their virtual setup is very good, I can attest. Go buy a ticket! [1]: https://longhornphp.com/
