1 year. ~7,000 km driven. 24 nights in hotel rooms. 125 hours of theory. 40 hours in the air. And yesterday, my competence evaluation.
Six years ago I was just a shy girl learning to fly, soaking up every bit the folks at the airfield would share. Somehow I turned into the old lady on the right hand seat — soon doing my small part to make the flight deck a little more colourful, passing on what was once passed on to me. Circle of life.
Unicornlines is a flight instructor now. Still surreal. 🥺
The DA20 Katana is our trainer at the club flight school, and now that I'm an instructor I really should build up some currency on it — I've been mostly on the C172, C182 and the PC-6 Turbo lately.
Or is that just my excuse for a sunny Sunday Ausflug over the Bodensee? 😏

Aviation life is chaotic. Schedules shift often, weather sometimes refuses to cooperate — and then come the unplanned breaks you didn't see coming.
Those are the moments that recharge the batteries.
Had a day off from work yesterday, but I still spent it flying. I took my glider license out and took one of the club’s LS4s for a lap around the block. What was supposed to be a quick one-hour flight turned into nearly 3.5 hours of soaring. I completely lost track of time up there, just sharing thermals wingtip-to-wingtip with the birds. It was so lovely. 🩵🦅
This was quite a rabbit hole. What started as general curiosity and my own need for reliable instrumentation ended up way deeper than expected. And while I had hoped the journey could end here, friends are already asking me to support other engine avionics too.
And if you're considering JPI for your plane: be aware that there's not much support and your data is obfuscated at best. There are also devices out there that give you a nice and shiny .csv out of the box.
Got up at 5:00 a.m. just to launch a glider into the dawn. Right as the sun crested the horizon, they released at 1,500m above the ground.
As the tug pilot, my job then is to descend as safely and efficiently as possible. And well, what can I say? I was fast enough to witness a second sunrise on the same day.
Sometimes flying is pure magic. 🌄🦄
Hab keinen Haartrockner hier. Ich fahre einfach mit dem Fahrrad einmal um den Block. Zack Haare trocken. 30 °C im Nachtschatten.
On duty with the Joey Glide towing team last week. 🛫
It was great to see all the youngsters gathering in one place to enjoy the sport together. Had a lot of fun getting them into the air!
Ops Director: Monday is a bank holiday, you have an additional day off.
Weather forecast: Presenting you a nice little heat wave with temperatures up to 44 °C next week.
Ops Director: We are unable to find a volunteer Tuggie for Monday. Can you fly?
@thunfisch@chaos.social Sailplane towing, skydive flights, cross country flights… Whatever suits you. 😉
Lycoming SI 1094D.
RTFM.
Can’t say it often enough. 1094 D.
@DJGummikuh@mastodon.social Nicht wirklich. Wegen dem Flugzeug wasche ich die Haare ja. Abgas und Staub.
@HackyScientress@chaos.social @thunfisch@chaos.social But I know some skydivers which are really good at camera flying. So if you need them–they will be there.
@HackyScientress@chaos.social @thunfisch@chaos.social Hint: You need to be a licensed and experienced skydiver to be endorsed carrying a camera. Too many accidents happened.
