mastodon 4.7.3I just read Some Of Us Are Liars by Fiona Cummins, and I really enjoyed this thriller book!
Really clever twists, lots of attention to detail. It was brilliant.
I was listening to the audiobook, and in the later chapters when the twist was revealed, I audibly went "wait WHAT" and went back. I was so shook I grabbed the book to make sure I understood it right.
Now *that's* how you do a thriller.

I wanna see your bookshelf! But first, here is mine (yes, I'm going to need a new bookshelf very soon)

Finished Only Child by Casey Kelleher. A brill psychological horror book that actually left me quite stumped as to what the final reveal would be. I devoured it in a day - a fun read!

I finished Red Dragon by Thomas Harris.
Really great psychological thriller book! A bit slow to start, but well worth it. Loved the fact it delved deep into the villain's psyche - oddly enough I haven't read many psychological thriller books that do that.
Not loving the slurs in terms of referencing black people though. It's not *that* n-word, but it was a term that was already outdated when the book was published.

I also got a whole shelf of Karin Slaughter books. My bookshelves are filling up quite nicely...
I've finished Tender is the Flesh.
A very fast read of a book, but an absolutely horrific book at that. What if society devolved into cannibalism? But not just any old cannibalism - what if cannibalism was industrialised? Great usage of themes in this book.
I was a bit sceptical with Part 2 of the book, but the book played a blinder of a hand.

I've joined up to a new book social thingymajig! It's called Pagebound, and I like it because I can actually access it on the computer as well as via apps.
You can find me here: @MenacingDigit@pagebound.co
I have noticed though that in Emily Henry's romance books, the MMC:
- Obsesses over the FMC to the point where the FMC is the MMC's world
- The MMC has never heard of a Playstation or an Xbox.
I do wonder if those two are linked...
Just came back from the cinema after watching The Drama. Oh my GOD I was at the edge of my seat for the last half of the film.
Immensely funny but also *incredibly* tense and agonising to sit through (for the right reasons - it's intentionally done that way), The Drama is one of the best films I've personally seen this year.
Would absolutely recommend watching and going in blind.
Just finished a book and I've realised I haven't posted anything about my previous books, so here goes!
Red Rising by Pierce Brown - I didn't love it as much as others, but I definitely had a fun time. I've got Golden Sun and I plan to read it next. I heard this one was just so that Pierce Brown could get his book published, and is a trojan horse of sorts. Can't wait to see what's next 👀

Went to MCM Comic Con today in London, and I GOT TO MEET JOHN ROMERO!! My mind is BLOWN!!
Such a great day today, got so much as well - my bank account and my body needs a rest from all the spending and walking! 😂
I need to go to sleep, but it's too hot to be upstairs... :(
I'm using Pagebound, and I do love it. However, I'm really not a fan of when I mark a book as "currently reading", I have to manually enter how many pages the book has in total.
Goodreads and StoryGraph has this data right out of the gate. Why is it that Pagebound doesn't have it?
Another one for book readers
On average, how many books do you read at a time?

I saw Disclosure Day on Sunday and I'm still not quite over just how bad it was.
Riddled with plot holes, bad action sequences, and just really stupid things that don't add *anything* to the film (like how long it took to run the phone over with the car).
Had I not seen Iron Lung this year, Disclosure Day would be the worst film I've seen all year. As it stands, it's the worst film I've seen all year by a notable director.
Finally caught up with the 2 episodes of The Boys so far... man season 5 is really shaping up to be something, ain't it?
I'm having a cracking time between belting with laughter and feeling sad that the show is coming to an end.
Also, smartest move that Amazon has done - released episodes once a week rather than all at once.
Gives everyone time to chat, digest, and catch up. I really wish other streaming platforms did this (hint hint Netflix)
Book readers, do you read books in order, or do you read a book in a series and then move onto something different and come back to it in the future?
Very curious about this result.
