Replying to
@Barbara_Sliwinska@mastodon.social @RobotDiver@starlite.rodeo You could argue Ó ‘grandson, grandchild, descendant, grand-daughter’ (or Ua, but not not O’ – that’s just a spelling used in Anglicizations) to be gender-neutral as the noun has been used referring to women for centuries too, see https://dil.ie/42573 Women traditionally take patronymic Ní (= inghean uí ‘(the) daughter of the descendant of…’) and when called after a husband, (bean) Uí ‘(the wife) of Ó…’.

Replying to
@Barbara_Sliwinska@mastodon.social @RobotDiver@starlite.rodeo So it’s generally just that women traditionally took names with that one additional level of indirection: either sayong ‘the daughter of (a man named Ó…)’ traditionally or sometimes (rarely) using their husband’s name as ‘(the wife) of…’

Great analysis of the linguistic process in Andy Weir’s #ProjectHailMary. The whole channel by #MartinHilpert is worth following.

@homawida@troet.cafe I’ve had an Olympus E-M5 mk. III for almost two years. Wanted something compact and capable for photos, then-new OM-5 was more expensive without much added value, other bodies were larger or less feature-rich.
