I miss when the only disinformation/nonsense I would be exposed to in a given day was one of those "forward this to 10 people or an elephant farts" emails that a relative would send me.
I have been buried in work and so terribly stressed and angry at the world that I completely missed that a bunch of astronauts just launched into space toward the Moon, something I have never seen in my 42 years of life.
My soul hurts.
For those who listen to a lot of podcasts, you might want to check out AntennaPod. It's an open-source podcast player. No ads. Community built.
I recently switched after getting annoyed by intrusive ads on Castbox, and I'm loving this thing. Android only for now. But good.
There should be a button which appears the first time any software/search engine suggests you use its AI thing and which says "I'd rather be drawn and quartered than use this." If you click it, no AI thing ever shows up again unless you personally turn it on in the settings.
I would click so fast.
Boy: Why don't you spend your MtG Arena coins on packs.
Me: I am saving them for Strixhaven so I can get 9,000,000 packs and open them for days.
Boy: That's ridiculous.
Me: Yes. I am Lord of the Ridiculous. Bow before me...
Sad news for tonight. No stream from me.
I'm a bit too far behind on work and need to prioritize catchup in these last days of the semester.
Sunday should still be good for my gaming nonsense. Friday's Skiffy and Fanty stream is still on!
With my hands in so many different hats, it's a bit cumbersome to link everything on socials. So if you are trying to find all the things I do, there's a handy page that makes that easy peasy (lemon squeezy)!
Podcasts, blogs, videos, and so much more. Wee!
There's a documentary about George Romeros' supposed vision for a Resident Evil film on Tubi.
I am immediately intrigued...

And it's streaming time, y'all!
Wings + Wheyfarers returns, our weekly ICARUS stream.
Come watch a bunch of weirdos try to survive in this unforgiving landscape of weird horses and evil bears! Let's go!
Calling indie authors and publishers:
If you're looking for an editor who specializes in #sciencefiction #fantasy #horror or anything between, I might be just what you need!
Hit me up at The Duke of Editing. I provide most levels of editing at reasonable rates! #writing
5 hours of Artemis II launch stuff (pre-launch, people stuff, launch, more launch).
Just in case you need a reminder that people are capable of doing amazing things and not just evil monstrous stuff.
People did this.
According to legend, every person who tosses $3 or more to my Ko-Fi page gets access to a secret chamber in Ikea.
I don't know if that's actually true, but it wouldn't hurt to support my work with a quick jolt of money objects!
Who are some of your favorite SF/F/H book cover artists of all time? The folks whose work lives rent free in your head like a ghost.
I'm curious.
I now see why Episode 15 ("Amina") of Season 7 of Fear the Walking Dead is the lowest rated episode by fans.
It is easily the worst episode of this show that I've seen thus far. Absolutely horrendously written wishy washy plot hole nonsense.
I honestly didn't think the writing for Fear the Walking Dead could get any worse than Season 7, but the first episode of season 8 has set a new low for this show.
The folks at Speculative Insight have a great piece on Indian feminist SF that everyone should check out (by Amritesh Mukherjee)! It's part 1, so there's much more to come!
I've got some new things to read now...
The streaming has begun again.
Tonight is our weekly multiplayer night, and since I'm still neck deep in grading, we're going with the classics.
Come hang with us as we play PUBG. Suggest a reasonable challenge for us to try in chat! Wee!
If you missed out on the Honey scandal, I strongly recommend MegaLag's videos on just how scammy that company is.
Screwing over creators. Screwing over businesses. Just layers and layers of gross.
And so it came to pass that my friends + I collected together for an evening of The Quorum, our PUBG show.
We're challenging ourselves by making it so we can't run 2 of the same ammo type. Also: chasing those 100 dubdubs.
Come hang in chat. Be geeky w/ me!
Sidebar:
Does anyone have a recommendation for a scholarly/academic essay which explores definitions of life and how they may or may not apply to hypothetical artificial "life"?
I've got a great one on what moral responsibility we may have to living AI but not a meaty on on what life means here.
And we're live with a new episode of Wings + Wheyfarers, our weekly ICARUS stream.
Join us as my grading-melted brain tries to learn to make fire and fight bears on an unforgiving alien world.
We're real good at this. Ha! HA! Wee!
I've set myself a modest goal of getting my Patreon page up to $100/mo.
If you appreciate the stuff that I do, from podcasts to occasional blog posts and beyond, consider joining. $1/mo is all it takes, and you get more nifty stuff to boot!
Every little bit helps! Thanks!
One thing I'm looking into for when my current Samsung phone starts kicking the bucket is a phone that works on my family's cell network and is de-Googled or at least built without all the AI garbage permanently loaded in (pro-privacy, not AI-centric garbage).
Fairphone, perhaps?
Alright. It's Wednesday, nerds, and that means streaming time.
We're trying to be happy tonight, so we're doing silly challenges in PUBG and trying to ourselves a good time.
Come join our ridiculous streaming adventures. We need friends!
So, I did better at my LGS' Secrets of Strixhaven pre-release event than I had expected. 2-0. 2-1. 1-2. Ranked fifth overall (out of 23) and almost every game was bonkers close.
I feel good. Won a bunch of packs, too!
Kiddo ranked 4th by technicality (he had a draw). Anywho!
Lots of whiplash in Season 7 of Fear the Walking Dead.
Characters get a story and die. Characters get a story and completely change on a dime for no apparent reason. Characters that used to be important are completely sidelined.
The interesting stories are mostly shortchanged. Oof.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a desktop (Windows) RSS reader or a free (and not exploitative) browser (with or without a phone app) that isn't Feedly? Preferably a desktop option.
I was fine with Feedly for a while, but lately it's been crashing while reading feeds.
Over on my Patreon page, you'll find a variety of posts about my family hiking adventures, geeky subjects, thoughts on movies and films, and other things (plus more to come).
Joining is pretty cheap, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside! :D
For those curious about my doings, I have an AlphabetStreams YouTube channel where I share videos of my #gaming adventures, plus stuff on various and sundry other topics geeky and wondrous.
If you're inclined, check it out and give me a sub there! Trying to get to 200 subs before the world collapses!
A technofascism reading list?
Yes, please.
It's short and has some obvious choices, but there are a couple that are new to me. Anywho.
