My finished pelisse! It's amazing to wear. The heavy trim moves and ripples the skirt in ways I didn't expect. It is very intimidating as well, thanks to the military vibes. The center front facings were surprisingly difficult. I had to snip the piping, then pull the fluff out out of each bit piping enough so it would lay flat. That is 136 piping ends to manage. I then had to make sure the facing had enough tension on piping to keep it flat. The decoration removed over an inch of length from the skirt. Qibbles - I screwed up the lining hem so I wasn't able to get the hem details done. I decided against the center front piping as I wanted to show off the that crisp front edge. And of course the color match. I don't want to see another piece of piping for a looooong time. #sewing #HistoricalCostuming

I may have a problem. Meet Samantha. My new to me 1935 Singer 15. I have a 6 month wait before my Featherweight gets it paint job, and I realized I was really going to miss have a good vintage straight stitch machine that can handle light weight silks. I tried to get my other vintage machines up and running, but my treadle is having tension issues and my hands crank is missing a 120 year old bobbin case. I'm mid project and don't have time for servicing. Found some who restores and sells crack, errr, vintage machines in town, who had this beautiful baby for sale. Omg! She is the same age as my house. #sewing

Not feeling so hot today.

The cats were happy to oblige with plenty of cuddles.

It's poppy season right now in California.

There is something magical about California poppies. How their petals delicately bend and twist, refusing perfection, moving throughout the day. The way the light hits them, how they glow in the sunlight.

This year I had a pink rimmed one sprout up.

Beadwork is finished! The second image is closer to the true red of the velvet. I did go with the center sunburst, but I tweaked the layout so it felt less crowded, which did the trick. Next on to the pattern drafting! #sewing #BeadWork #embroidery #SineWaveGown

A new void is in the house.

Kiddo has decided to name her Nyx, after the Greek goddess of the night. Daughter of Chaos, Mother of Doom and Death.

And snuggles.

My cocktail dress for kiddo's school event is turning out to be much more dainty than was in my head.

Unfortunately the lace isn't symmetrical along the center line so I can't quite pattern match the V. Juuuuuuust similar enough that I keep forgetting and fighting with it.

Am doing lace shaping so the pieces will be narrow in the front, widening toward the back.

Cat advice needed!

Trooper, 12M here has been fur pulling. It's nerves, not allergies. Always the same side. Been working with his vet, and are getting close to having to give him anxiety meds.

He pulls when home alone. Walking in the door after being out for the day and we are greeted with fur piles. If he thinks he is home alone he starts this horribly anxious crying.

I am thinking about getting him a friend is better than meds. A friend so he isn't alone when we aren't home.

Anyone have experience in getting an older cat a friend?

.I did not expect healing a shoulder injury would have the impact it did in my sewing.

Am suffering from an impinged shoulder. It hurts to move it in very specific ways. Treating with mild physical therapy. Already feeling loads better, my range of motion returning.

I've added a "no slouching" device to my routine to stop the underlying cause - slouching and rolling my shoulders forward while I work. My posture is improving.

But the sewing consequences:

In only a week my armscye has shifted backward. By nearly a 1/2 inch (1 cm).

The pattern block I fit 3 weeks ago needs to be cut back. The pretty little angle to hide that armpit bulge is now getting squished, when it didn't before.

Human bodies are crazy. I didn't expect this much change this fast.

Selling Girl Scout cookies in Sonoma this morning.

People watching the day drinkers, cough, people going wine tasting, is fun.

Especially the parties of young women dressed to the 9s but trying real hard not to be too obvious.

Bar hopping but it's fancy.

@bobthetraveler@mastodon.world I find it interesting that while he was right, his findings where not why they built the London sewers. I think, to our modern detriment, that we think they were more rational in their infastructure funding than today. It was the smell and the belief in miasma. The great stink of 1855 got enough people scared for their health that the sewers got funded. It was not John Snow's science that brought change. The remedies his science demonstrated just happened to align with the anti-science reasoning in the public discourse. Yes, the more enlightened people cited him, but most people backed the sewers because through a stinky city would make them sick. The authorities put the pump handle back on after it was stolen. It's kinda scary when you realize how many major public health initiatives took gorilla practices or relied on misconceptions to implement. What he did was amazing, and to honor him we need to remember just how hard the change really was.

Gavin Newsom's responses to Trump's dyslexia bullying warms my heart.

I'm glad it is putting Newsom's challenges out there for public consumption. To give speeches he studies, he doesn't read a teleprompter. So he is unscripted, unlike most politicians.

What is really crazy? It is almost certain that Trump is dyslexic as well. Just untreated, undiagnosed.

I'm super proud of the kiddo this morning. Really stepping up with dad being sick.

This morning, she made her dad tea, and coffee. And is putting the dishes away.

Without being asked.

She had never made coffee before.

Yesterday, she got annoyed with me that I was only planning to let her make half of our meals for the week.

What ever it is that hubby has, starting to get worried. This is day 6, and hexs been to the doctor and the ER. Negative flu, covid RSV. Antibiotics were ineffective.

@coreyspowell hate to bring out the tired trope, but a lot of the issues mentioned are covered in huge detail in the book. The movie was long enough as it was, though. I enjoyed it. What I really missed was the sense of constant discovery between Rocky and Grace. A lot of that was cut out, like Rocky being awestruck that Grace can see heat. And Grace being overwhelmed by how easily Rocky does math.

@iris@neuromatch.social my pet peeve is that the Alt button is on the left while scrolling. If the image is text, it obscures the text and makes it hard to read. Putting it on the right would minimize this issue.
