@ajroach42@retro.social you have. it's cars. there was tons of opposition to cars when they were first introduced, similar to the opposition to AI and data centers today. cars were shoved down peoples throats by the industry lobbying governments to pass laws making streets exclusive to cars, and by the invention of modern marketing as we know it. cars were so unpopular they literally had to reinvent marketing to get people to use them!

@ajroach42@retro.social thanks, I've been making versions of the "AI is cars" argument for a few years, I think the analogy holds

@danielholt@mstdn.games @hockey@a.gup.pe bruins in 7 habs in 7 sens in 7 pens in 4 avs in 5 stars in 5 vegas in 5 oil in 4

@cstross@wandering.shop it's "set foot," not "step foot"!

@smellsofbikes@mastodon.social @schmod@xoxo.zone people who actually enjoy cars (like myself) tend to also be very strong supporters of pedestrian and bike infrastructure. use the car for what it's for! I don't cut an apple with a circular saw, I don't drive to get coffee 🤷

online maga people love to talk about "80/20 issues". well "no war with Iran" is apparently an 80/20 issue.

nuclear weapons are extremely bad and should never be used

@cloudhop@equestria.social many people believe that my job as a professional software developer is to literally press keys that enter values into a buffer. I don't mind that the general public has that misconception, but I do wish the people leading software orgs understood that's not the job

@samlitzinger@journa.host in the 80s it was common for pbs affiliates to air syndicated wrestling promotions

@maxroser@mas.to where does that rank among historic pandemics?
