@JessTheUnstill It is unfortunately the case that security and convenience are often "allergic" to each other. The *more* you make a technology secure, the *less* convenient it (usually) gets to use it. Once in a while a nerd-Titan like Moxie Marlinspike comes along and defies this pattern by coding for WhatsApp or Signal. But the general pattern remains: convenience and security are usually allergic to each other. Please don't impute intention - that there was *necessarily* malice.

There is a lot of negativity around various platforms changing the terms of usage for their services - a privilege the platform owners trivially own. These platforms are like the Gingerbread House that Hansel & Gretel just can't resist going inside of. Hansel & Gretel might complain loudly on their way onto the oven/stewpot, but far more wise would be to avoid going into the Gingerbread House in the first place - if it can be avoided.
Do parents read these storybooks to their kids any longer? 🤷

@brewsterkahle@mastodon.archive.org I'm in #Malaysia, and paper books get musty and moldy quite fast here, unless you run an air conditioner regularly, which also dehumidifies. #Libraries with paper books are great in the drier, more temperate parts of the world. There is a tropical style of book - the "ola leaf" book, which will last many centuries in the tropics, but they are smaller, harder to create, and usually reserved only for religious texts. Flash storage is a big deal here to make #ebooks widely available.

IMHO, one should be "printing" (posting) to one's website, then sharing RESTful URLs to the webpage which is the content one believed one needed to print. Confidential subject matter can be shared from #Nextcloud or a team collaboration tool like #Mattermost Team server, which have straightforward access controls.
These methods are arguably more #EcoFriendly , as well.
