@mrmasterkeyboard@mastodon.social Curiously enough, yuri can inspire someone to write code! At least in my case. I’ve written some yuri-inspired code, even though I have virtually no programming experience. It’s an utility tool for making an unofficial translation of a certain yuri game, if you’d like to know. Maybe it’s not such a big deal, but at least it works for me! However, It’s hard to tell whether yuri had a positive or negative impact on the quality of that code, as it affected its very existence. (And I don’t have proper skills to judge its quality.) Should I just call the whole process an yuri-driven development?

The first Mai-Otome opening, 「Dream☆Wing」 by Kuribayashi Minami, is nice and quite lighthearted, as it primarily about main heroine’s (Arika) dream which suddenly come true. It’s a great exposition and entry point into the whole new world of the new installment of Mai-HiME series! However, I want to show you, @apc@starside.social , the second Mai-Otome opening: Crystal Energy (also by Kuribayashi Minami), as it ultimately became the iconic one for the whole series. Or at least it feels like that for me… It’s more on the dark side as it shows how plot thickens in the second part of the anime. I’d say it’s about feeling of doubt and uncertainty that the main heroines are engulfed by, and how it eventually turns into determination. And it’s also depicts the tragic past and tragic present of the planet Earl, (part of) the legacy that Arika holds, the iconic Otome authorization process, rivalry between Arika and Nina and its unforeseen consequences, Asward and Five Colums at their full glory, and, of course, astonishing power of Otome. Power of Otome is a power of a pair, you know! There is also an unofficial extended version of it, which combines scenes from both openings and the anime itself. And I think that author nailed it perfectly! Lyrics and scenes in this version (at least parts that I can understand) just harmonize naturally. Be careful, though, as it contains heavy spoilers! #AniMangaFoundIt #MaiOtome #舞乙HiME #anime

As you, @apc@starside.social , might know, there are quite a lot of great anime that features unrequited love in a different ways, like Sasameki Koto, Strawberry Panic, Simoun and Cardcaptor Sakura… but I think «Bloom into You» shows this aspect in a most unusual and sophisticated manner.

For Nanami Touko, who suddenly fell in love with Koito Yuu, unrequited love doesn’t mean struggle and rejection — I’d say for both of them it ultimately means mutual trust and acceptance! Both of them didn’t quite understand romantic feelings before, but for Touko everything is changed, while Yuu still remains the same. However, Yuu still wants to catch that feeling somehow… Sounds a bit complicated, but it is what it is!

@closetweeb @sam4000 @apc Let me guess… Is the owner of that watch you’re thinking about also incredibly good at makeshift weapon?
