Dusted off my old Canon 10D digital SLR. I bought it in 2003, and haven't used it for many years (my current camera is a Nikon P1000), but it's still working pretty well. The Tamron 90mm macro lens still kicks ass too 👍🏻 These Heliophanus spiders are perhaps 2mm in size, at most. #photography #macro #macrophotography

Nice ESPHome component to store the device source YAML as part of the firmware 👍🏻 Should really be a core component 😄 https://github.com/borisfeldman/source-archive #esphome #homeassistant #homeautomation #iot

One of our ponds keeps being visited by a crow, and we couldn't see what it was doing.

Turns out, it found a source of discarded bread somewhere in the neighbourhood and it's using the pond water to soak the bread so it's easier to eat 🥰

It's amazing by the way that you can buy an ESP32S3 with a LoRa (SX1262) shield for just €9, and it even comes with 2.4Ghz and 868Mhz antennas 🤩

@qgustavor@urusai.social @randahl@mastodon.social I recently switched to Immich for a self-hosted photo backup/management solution, which works great (although I don’t have very high requirements, mostly just being able to automatically back up my iPhone photos). Not a lot of maintenance required other than running the occasional update. https://immich.app/

@jtruk@mastodon.social Zigbee is fully local. However, you do need a working Zigbee infrastructure first, which means a Zigbee dongle (like the Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2) and Zigbee controller software (like HA's own ZHA, or Zigbee2MQTT). Zigbee is a mesh protocol, so it can extend beyond the range of a single Zigbee device (assume no more than about 5 meters). Tuya also make Zigbee devices, and those are also fully local. However, you do need to make sure that your Zigbee controller will support them, because Tuya is known to use so-called “custom Zigbee clusters” (I’ve never used ZHA myself, only Zigbee2MQTT, and it has decent support for Tuya devices, although I don't have any electrical radiators myself). Tuya WiFi devices typically use cloud services, but there are two (that I know of) HA integrations that can communicate with them locally (https://github.com/make-all/tuya-local and https://github.com/rospogrigio/localtuya) How this works is that you first use the Tuya mobile app to add your device (which requires creating an account), then let the HA integration retrieve all the data required to address the device locally. Once that's done you can block the device's internet access fully if you want to prevent it calling home. What kind of HA support are you looking for? If it's simply on/off (and optional energy monitoring) it might be possible to get a dumb radiator that you power through a smart switch/plug.
