Brown sugar is the healthy sugar, right? Like brown rice or whole wheat?

Developers,

We've spent decades arguing •against• source lines-of-code and numbers of commits as a measure of productivity. If you're an AI convert, your proselytizing will be unconvincing if you show charts of your SLOCs and commits increasing.

Show us:
• How many more features shipped?
• How many more of your customers are happy?

Showing how you are measuring business outcomes is way more convincing than showing that you're only measuring code output.

Why does this small thing matter? I live in an affluent suburban area. My neighbors can't figure out how—or knowing how, can't be bothered—to match large shopping carts with large shopping carts and smalls with smalls. Even after expending the effort to bring the cart to the corral, they give up on the last trivial bit of work. Doing so would benefit others: carts wouldn't spill over into the parking lot as quickly, a bit less work for the poorly-paid employee that rounds up carts. But no, the cart's in the corral and the rest is someone else's problem. And these are the folks we'd hope to depend on for mutual aid involving actual difficult work?

Michael Schur was onto something in How to Be Perfect when using "returning a cart to the corral" as a metaphor for ethical decision making. Every grocery run, I hear Ted Danson's voice from the audiobook saying "Do I have to return my shopping cart to the shopping cart rack thingy? I mean … it's all the way over •there•."

If you can't afford t̶o̶ ̶t̶i̶p̶ to pay for the power to run your business, you can't afford t̶o̶ ̶e̶a̶t̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ to run your business.

@jamie@zomglol.wtf Admittedly ignorant of your team's particulars, I have a hypothesis about low activity in December and January that doesn't involve AI: holidays and Q1 "what even are we doing this year?" chaos.
