Verification #enshittification: a satirical timeline.

First a password.
Then your email.
Then your phone.
Then your voice, shouted at a TV.
Now your face, your government record, the biometric residue of existing.

Each step felt like the limit.
None of them were.

The question was never how far we'd go, it was whether we'd notice.

Tomorrow I'll be talking about how local LLMs are pretty good at sysadmin and configuration management things.

You don't need to send all of your stuff to big cloud models.

It turns out that hooking up a MCP server to @ara@fosstodon.org makes #ansible playbooks even easier to understand and troubleshoot.

I am pretty excited about this !

I've contributed quite a bit to RDO during my time at Red Hat. I was pleasantly suprised to see some of the tools I helped create still running a while ago. We built (and tested!) packages for nearly every commit landing in an #OpenStack git repository. Many dependencies like KVM, python libraries, rabbitmq, mariadb, too ! RDO provided the upstream community with trunk yum mirrors so that they could themselves test things on RHEL-like distros. It was all a lot of work but it felt worth it.

When I say that it was worth it, I mean that it fostered collaboration between the packaging and project communities. Since the packages were used by a number of projects and installers, it meant they got broad testing coverage. When CI failed in packaging or in one of the CI jobs in the upstream community, it was an opportunity to troubleshoot and fix it for everyone. Again, it was a lot of work, but it felt worth it and the idea was that it would trickle down to the product that was OSP.
