I've done computer stuff for an extremely long time. When I'm not doing that I ride my bicycle and go camping. I hope you are all doing well and I'm excited to try out this whole internet thing.

A morale budget appeared suddenly at work and it has to be spent by the end of the year. Our boss tried to schedule a team lunch but due to scheduling conflicts it ended up today.

However, our boss is sick and everyone else is on vacation or leave so it's just me and one other guy going to lunch and I guess we have to really pig out.

I just realized that when I need heavy cream for cooking it would be simpler to order a venti cold milk, substitute heavy cream at starbucks. Price is about the same too and there's a Starbucks two blocks from my house

I'm in SF trying to go to a restaurant on santacon night. I regret my life choices.

I'm so mad about Claude code. I've been using it to update my configs for zsh and emacs and it's really good at it.

I love when candidates do the coding screen in C++. Invariably means they are going to do a good job. I suppose that makes sense - if you aren't a strong C++ programmer you would probably be nuts to attempt using it.

Um somehow I hit the $2000 per month Claude monthly limit at work... in 10 days? Maybe I used opus too much.

Do you remember how good plastic wrap / cling wrap was in the 80s? That stuff was super stretchy and stuck to everything. I assume the chemicals that made it that way were all really terrible for the environment and for us.

I have a recent MacBook that I connect to a monitor at work and one at home. The monitors are the same model of Lenovo and the computer thinks they are the same monitor. At home the monitor is beside my laptop and at work it's above. Thus each time I move my laptop I have to open display settings and tell the laptop to position the monitor correctly.

Surely there's a unique identifier that the monitor supplies that my laptop could use to differentiate between them? Or is this not true?

Not that santacon was ever a good thing but at least it used to be somewhat seedy and charming in a gross way. Now it seems to be very polished and elaborate. Basically the same vibe as Halloween in the city.

@cks@mastodon.social @furicle@mastodon.social maybe big companies would actually want the serial number to work correctly in edid so they could do asset management? Or maybe nobody cares.

@furicle@mastodon.social I just realized the stupid answer here is that the monitors are just all reporting the same serial number, i.e. the monitors are not implementing edid correctly. You could check that pretty easily I think.

@furicle@mastodon.social I checked the edid on my two Lenovo monitors and they both report the same serial number. Jeez.
