Look at this bad-ass machine! Driven by James Garner!

I live in Western Mass, I reluctantly work in tech, and I generally prefer pen and paper.
Posts expire after 30 days.
Watching a bunch of fancy-themselves-savvy tech types coming to the realization that "prediction markets" are just bookie joints used by crooks and degenerates is pretty funny.
I don't know that I'd be talking loudly to my accountant about my tax situation in the middle of a busy coffee shop, but hey—maybe that's just me ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I'm watching the Monaco qualifications and I gotta say, they're not doing much to disabuse me of my opinion that F1 is a snooty European rich-guy sport.

For no particular reason, I was just thinking about all those friends' houses from the late 1970s and early 1980s that had the bathroom wallpaper that looks like old-timey 19th century newspaper, with the ads for horseless carriages and Dr. Phosphate's Miracle Health Drops and whatnot. I was always kind of jealous.
When you have just started reading a book and bring it with you on a trip, only to discover that the book isn't very good
I (along with most other people, I assume) had never heard of Larrison, but I'm listening to this collection of his recordings, and yeah—they're *really* good.

It really just blows my mind that we have theoretically serious people walking around thinking that because some tech CEO says something about the future of tech, that makes it true because that person is some sort of expert. Rather than, say, an interested party with something to gain from having people believe their claims.
As I said last week (or whenever), I was glad to see the verdict against Facebook and YouTube for deliberately designing a harmful and addictive product. But I wonder if the better analogy than the tobacco industry is how we regulate gambling. Or at least, how we *used to* regulate gambling, because now it seems we have decided as a society that gambling is awesome and should be integrated into every part of life.

UGH the network cable running from the router down to the network switch in the basement seems to have failed.
Thanks to a re-watch of the Backrooms videos last weekend, my YouTube recommendations are now a giant slab of dead mall and abandoned places walk-throughs, interspersed with a few "This mall is surprisingly not dead" videos.
