If anyone knows of a room going in Cork City (preferably Northside or centre), help would be super appreciated.
I'm being evicted, have to be out of my place by 25th May.
Ideal if I could start renting in April or start of May. I've a lot on my plate and getting this sorted would be a huge weight off my shoulders.
Boosts appreciated ❤️
I've just launched my freelance venture: Technical Writing as a Service (TWaaS)!
Medium-long term, I want to morph this into a workers co-op—maybe under a different name—especially given there's interest from close friends. For now, it's just myself.
If your business or project need someone to handle docs, send them my way. I'd be delighted to help, and even more-so for open source projects.
@seldo@alpaca.gold Again, there's a social context and contract you're disregarding, if the general fediverse-wide consensus is that search should be opt-in.
Just because you CAN do something on a technical level, does not mean that you get a pass on ignoring the social/community impact of that something.
Data is federated for the purpose of people connecting with others socially, not to have data scraped, dumped in ElasticSearch, and compiled in a place where they no longer have control over visibility.
@seldo@alpaca.gold I don't see a problem in having local instance indexing/search if that instance's community wants it. I also don't see a problem in fediverse-wide search if it's on an opt-in basis.
Just because A Thing is possible to do, or because A Thing has been done in other contexts, does not make it automatically socially appropriate or ethical to impose it in another context.
I don't understand mocking people for being against overt archiving and public reuse of their data without their consent.
@seldo@alpaca.gold @clickhere@mastodon.ie @Tupp_ed@mastodon.ie neither. I'm responding to you broadcasting very publicly that you'll do whatever you want with people's personal data, with a claim that if it arrives on your server, it's yours to do whatever you want with.
That isn't the case.
@seldo@alpaca.gold @clickhere@mastodon.ie @Tupp_ed@mastodon.ie I'll leave that for the data protection lawyer in the thread to answer if he wishes, but we're back to "techbro who believes that because he can build something, he should" territory.
@seldo@alpaca.gold @clickhere@mastodon.ie @Tupp_ed@mastodon.ie you have a fundamental lack of knowledge regarding data protection and data privacy if you believe you can store people's personal data forever.
@seldo@alpaca.gold consent to do what though? Whatever you like with it full stop? I've always understood federation in this context — a social media platform — to be for the purposes of allowing people to subscribe to other people's content and interact with them.
@seldo@alpaca.gold hence my wording using "if". I'm not saying there's a consensus, but there was certainly enough pushback the X amount of times someone decided this would be a brilliant idea in the past, to warrant folks to make their search engines opt-in.
you're free to do whatever you like and ignore people's consent if you wish.
