@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I can only imagine bad church reception coffee from this lol. I’ve never used one but my guess is most people just dump in too little Maxwell house instant and crank it up, producing weak but burnt coffee.

@naturepunk@ecoevo.social @yjeanrenaud@tech.lgbt I think if they can be picked out it’s a good thing, but theoretically they can load the same type of capture and recognition capabilities- so even though it should be obvious someone is using them, they could be disguised as something else if not worn by the user? Seems fine to keep detecting them.

@unlambda @ai6yr @BakerRL75 heat was the rumored contributer to the f86 crash at an air show in Broomfield, CO years ago. It was hotter than forecast and you dont get as much lift, so he started a maneuver too low. https://planecrashmap.com/plane/co/N86EX

@glyph @eevee yeah. It’s nigh irrelevant except to us pedants :).

FWIW, though chromium is open source, it’s got a couple things going against it.

  1. Its primary developers are Google Chrome developers, and they are empowered to make unilateral decisions in googles favor. We have seen this happen in a couple ways (cookie privacy, xslt as examples)
  2. It’s a big enough project that a true fork (not just a patch distribution) is very impractical. It would have to be a project Mozilla-big at least to make any difference. Vivaldi is a neat idea but if there’s some thing upstream they don’t like that is deep in the system, what happens?

RE: @leeloo@chaosfem.tw

Ya, don’t get me wrong, the way it works is _fascinating_. But it’s not magic, or reasoning, or thinking. It’s more like pattern matching. Figure out how to shape a thing that fits in the mold that the training data said is ‘right’. And then do that over and over again, with the previous data as part of the input. Start over with some nudges if that didn’t seem to go anywhere.

@dschaub@mstdn.social and/or the upgrade price per mb of ram (for the top end available?). I guess what i'm getting at is the prices charged for ram by apple are high.

@glyph @eevee yep good observations - knowing how crazy xml libraries are in general and the utter insanity that is xslt, I don’t envy anyone trying to maintain it. I think the point still stands that a small group can make a decision that maybe makes sense for their case without judging the wider community use though. Frankly, I’ve experienced this with other google OSS. Specifically protobuf libraries.

@paul big corps got involved early to jam their existing requirements into it, diluting the decisions that could have made it more straightforward

@mattblaze@federate.social I’m more worried about people believing he CAN do these things, and disrupting the process that way with the noise and enough precincts possibly following along, or outside pressure like we started to see with counting. General public panic is the weak link, and the logical, legal explanation is a lot less interesting to entertainment media these days
