I am going to get nothing achieved today… because #RetroGaming because somebody ported “Frak” from #BBCMicro to run in-browser: https://tobybuk.github.io/BBCMicro_6502WebCompiler/FrakJS/

At the #groeningemuseum in #Brugge this piece by Dan Van Severen (titled Vierkante compositie [Square Composition]) caught my eye. The #photography does not do it justice to seeing it IRL.

This has to be one of the saddest playgrounds I’ve seen. #photography captured this awful space on the E42 between Jemeppe-sur-Sambre and Spy.

The #Brusk #museum in #Brugge is a wonderful space. The “Latent City” expo is mesmerizing.

@bengo @aburka As I’ve always said, just because it’s a specification it doesn’t mean you have to implement it. I’m more of an applied than pure developer, so I tend to prefer things from IETF than W3C (not that that is any kind of endorsement from me because IETF’s RFCs are not exactly immune from pay-to-play). I’m sure everybody involved has the best intentions, as always, but.

The snowdrops are out in force, and it feels like spring in the air (which is a bit weird because the weather is getting far too warm for this time of year). #photography

My audio pipeline can use either #CoreAudio or #FFmpeg or #libopus for codec purposes. The biggest shock was realizing that using pipes is a lot easier than an API, and that thinking like #plan9 isn’t as crazy as it first seems.

@RogueAmoeba I really wish there had been more thought (by Apple) into how this all works. I’m fairly sure that some people love the menu icons, some people hate them, and many are indifferent. Why can’t changes like this be user-configurable at system or application layer? I know there are good arguments for and against forcing things on users, but this constant “we know better” is wearing thin after the endless footguns Apple makes.

Using #PortAudio to send PCM on my Mac was causing a few problems, so, I whipped up some #golang to talk to #CoreAudio via CGO and now everything is nicely going beepboop. And I’m discovering that using go to generate sfx, music, and tts is kinda fun.

@openrisk The web went pear shaped when CSS moved away from simple tweaks to the default colors and sizes to become the behemoth that it is. The superficial style over substance, with JavaScript to juice things further, and it’s been downhill ever since.

@bengo @aburka I somehow missed it came via IETF. Nevertheless, I dislike AS2 with a passion. Being a big fan of strictly typed languages, it is a PITA to implement, as is all that LD, RDF, SOLID, and related stuff.

@tony@toot.hoyle.me.uk If the customer does not scream, does the data not exist in the first place?

(Remember when data retention meant a bunch of tapes or worm media sitting in a vault that you could physically check instead of bits in a cloud that would evaporate into silicon dust at the most inappropriate time)

If you talk about missing the #WeirdWeb (or whatever) but were born after the web appeared, you have #anemoia not nostalgia. If you didn’t experience having to install Trumpet to get winsock, kindly STFU.

I wrote something new (ostensibly #nownownow related) for my #SmallWeb website on August 1, so it became my accidental first post for #Blaugust2026
