I’m old enough to remember the Bicentennial celebrations in 1976. Despite being right after Vietnam and Watergate, most Americans were excited and optimistic. So different from the present.

If you are running macOS Tahoe, the Apple Intelligence Foundation models are available for local generative-AI tasks. They are not as good as Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, but can be useful and don't cost extra.
