@CordiallyChloe@tech.lgbt @BenRiceM@mastodon.social I guess what I am trying to say is I struggle to say authoritatively "If you like HP you are automatically hateful and are guilty of everything the Author has put out there". Are they guilty of supporting her financially? Yes. Ignorant for not knowing? Sure, but we are all ignorant of things we are not aware of. Should they continue, in good conscience, to support the IP? No. But enjoying the concept & the world, loving the characters & wanting more? I can't fault that.

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social I have seen this mentioned once in your replies but it is entirely possible that audiences are enjoying the universe while completely unaware of J.K. Rowling as a person. Furthermore; a lot of people are capable of separating the art from the artist. I personally cannot. Some who are aware of her don't allow that to pollute their personal experience with the art. I don't think most lovers of HP are doing it for hate reasons or eagerness to line a hateful, resentful creature's pockets.

People should absolutely take responsibility for their bad choices but I think expecting everyone to know the biases of the creators of anything, while maybe a fair curiousity, should not be an expectation imposed on absolutely everyone. These are my personal opinions though & I completely understand yours as well.

By opinions I mean the ones based on the art and author thing - factual, referential statements that happened aside, I think I am only discussing the subjective matter on 'who could someone who enjoys an IP possibly be & what can we attribute to them based on that'.

I genuinely hope the author stops reaping boundless amounts of cash after everything they have done. It is part of lots of things that are horrible in the modern world.

I guess from my point of view stating that 'I am against hate' goes without saying & I am more interested in the subjective elements of the discussion. I really don't feel the need to show off or promote myself either (you know how YTer will film themselves donating and shit like that) even though you are right - opening with that would have been better. I don't suffer like you guys suffer so I didn't read it from your POV, sorry about that
